Eating after gastric band

Posted , 4 users are following.

I had a gastric band at the end of December as haven't been able to have an adjustment yet due to having another surgery at the same time. However, I have found that during the last week I cannot stop eating....more than before the procedure and it's driving me nuts!!! Is this a normal thing that happens? I am going for a band adjustment this week but this constant eating is crazy and I need to lose weight not put on any more!!

I had my first fill after 6 wks so a bit of a diff situation to you - I was probs onto my 2nd fill after 3 mths.  Sadly the band does not alter our appetite just the amount you can physcially eat at any one time and as your band will not be operational at the moment due to you not having had a fill yet then the eating is something that you will have to control with your will power which is diffiult i know - you have had wgt loss surgery but still have to exercise restraint yourself. hopefully when you get your fill this will help you a little but to be honest i had several fills before it made much difference but you might be one of the lucky ones so hang on in there and see how it goes next wk - good luck

yes dee, for the first couple of days you are swolling from surgery and its difficult to eat but then you will eat normally, this gives surgery time to settle.  After your first or second fill which wil be in the first 2 months you will drop weight but also find it difficult to keep any food down, you need to learn to eat very slow and mouselike which isnt easy.  You will regurgitate reguarly but that dont hurt because you are just getting rid od excess but will learn that  toilets need to be nearby. By 3rd or 4th fill weight comes off, have to go now, mam needs me

if you do not think you are getting enough advice and support i would recommend you join a support group  - there may be one at the hosp where you had your op or you could join one run by an independant organisation such as WLSinfo who also have an online forum - i feel info, advice, tips and support are vital especially when you are starting out and of course as time goes on you can return the favour and share your knowledge and experience with others - you need to eat slowly and chew chew chew when you have restriction after your fills - presumably you have been told about not eating and drinking at the same time - to eat from a smaller plate, to avoid dry foods such as chops, steak etc - good luck
