Hi Denise,  yes my appetite was rubbish for first couple of weeks. If my husband hadn't been cooking, I wouldn't have bothered eating. It's back now though, sad to say - don't wnt too much weight gain!  It could be something to do with meds you are taking and remember you have had major surgery o your body is in shock. Good luck with your recovery.

Yes Dee, this is normal. I'm a big fruit lover and could not even eat that because it tasted too sweet after surgery. You should be getting back to normal soon, the pain meds could also be effecting your appetite. The evening of my surgery they gave me some wonderful chicken soup with big pieces of chicken it in. I was really hungry from not being able to eat before the surgery. I ate two bowls of it! Unfortunately it didn't stay down too long because of the anesthesia. Sure wish I had some of that soup now!

    Good luck!

    Hi Dee,

i,ve tried hard to lose my appetite!  I did it!!   I lost 8stone in the last year!  I,m only telling you this, not to show off, but because I realise how little food we actually need when we are not very mobile.  A Bacon sarnie and a banana sound good to me!

give yourself time, it's still early days. Is there someone to cook for you? It might be more tempting than if you do it.  That sounds rude, but you know what I mean!

try and have a nibble of something tasty during the day.

    love and hugs

Prob because you are not doing much . This site recommended whey protein so I bought some banana flavour . I add a banana and have one a day  better than nothing .

    Hi Denise..

I lost 7lbs in weight in the first two weeks, mainly because I got really severe constipation in the first week which made me afraid to eat anything.

Constipation although very common post op can become pretty serious if ignored.

After a strict diet of prunes, orange juice and cereal only, it thankfully cured itself.

Never underestimate constipation brought on by the post op pain meds we have to take its just another added pain we don't need after major surgery...It will be a few more weeks before I go back to my normal diet.

    Hi Denise,

I didn't have much of an appetite.  Especially when on the pain meds.  I lost about 10-15 pounds.  I was somewhat overweight, but that still was a lot for me.  It will get better.  Hang in there.
