Eating pork after gallbladder removal

Posted , 6 users are following.

I had my gallbladder removed five weeks ago. I think I made a mistake; last night I ate pork.

I've woken up to bad stomach cramps and constant diarrhoea.

I've taken a Buscopan for the pain, but it hasn't helped yet.

Anyone else have this experience?

Any suggestions on what I can do to relieve the symptoms?

Hi again, cant really help but I've had a couple of bouts diarrhoea even after eating chicken with Vegs etc. it's difficult to workout if it's the veg & if so which of the 3 vegs I had or if it was the chicken or even the gravy. I took Immodium and that stopped it but still had the cramps for the whole of the next day. it seems that it's all trial and error(which is daunting), but I'm writing things down as I try them. There was a reply to a post on here which was advising on what foods to not eat with other foods ie beef and veg together but ok on their own. I've been searching for the post but just cant find it. So if anyone does find it please could you repost? I'm sorry you're feeling so rubbish and hope it soon passes.

i know exactly how you feel. I ate pork about a week after the op and the following day was in agony so much so i found it hard to breathe. I ended up in A&E. The doctor there said there could still be a stone trapped in there. I was given strong painkillers for it. Eventually the pain passed but i would never touch pork again. The only meat i eat now is chicken. Haven't had any trouble since. Hope this helps and you feel better soon. Jill

Hi Becky, I had my Gallbladder removed last July. Even a year on i avoid red meats i found that my stomach would not tolerate them anymore pre op and certainly not post op.

The stomach takes about 6 months to settle after the operation, and for the digestive system to return to feeling normal.

Keeping a log of what your eating is a great idea, try white meats chicken no skin, turkey, avoid high fats your body is still adjusting.

try rice and soups salads etc, smaller meals, little meals spaced out. if your suffering with bad gas from the op try activated Charcoal is very good for absorbing the gas, only side effect black stools, which is just the charcoal.

    Hope this helps,

    Joanne

Thanks so much for all the replies to my post.

I've had horrid stomach cramps all day after that pork. never again!

Ive taken Buscopan twice and have a heat pad on my tummy but nothing seems to help.

Ive now resorted to some painkillers that helped me in the week after surgery. I hope they help. Codeine/Paracetamol.

Wondering if I'll ever be able to eat normally again.

what I should have said was an oxo cube in hot water so as not to have a boring dry meal.

Also nobody gives us any aftercare advice or dietary advice (not even a follow up appointment) so it's all a case of trial and error.
