Hi. Anyone suffer from ectopics? Mine started 3 yrs ago when i was pregnant and are getting worse. Had ecgs...48 hr ecg ( which of course only showed a couple) echo and ct angiogram which im waiting the results for but wanted to know how many is normal? For the last 5 days have been really bad and tonight in the space of an hour as i counted them i had 16..just so typical that when i had my 48 hr ecg a few weeks back i was having a good few days so of course the cardiologist said all looked normal. Just wondered if people suffered with these and what the outcome has been? Its really getting to me and worrying me now. THANKS.

Hi Emily,  Good idea on the monitor but I am not brave enough to want to know how many as then what, more meds that do not work. I stay positive that a cure will be found and sugar is a culprit and stress but the bagus nerve is the key I am sure. My secrets are to eat early and small meals often and wheat free and watch caffeine and alcohol but I refuse to give it up completely as I want to live!  Keep posting and maybe one of us will find a natural cure.

Hey good to hear from you.

They finally stopped last weds daytime. I mentioned a while back that i started taking magnesium then stopped over a month ago and they started coming back. Well ive been taking the magnesium again for 10 days again now and not really had many at all since last weds. Coincidence?! Who knows.

Yes finding a natural cure is key. As you say eating the right foods might help.

I am also going to keep track at what time of the month i get them as im wondering if for some women they might be due to the monthly cycle.

Stay positive and keep in touch.

      Hi there,

Currently off work with a lot of ectopics - kicked off Monday morning on way into work and sitting down was making them feel worse - didn't know where to put myself and after lasting until 2:30pm I caved in and took myself to A&E - how many is too many to ignore????

The usual done (again), bloods, urine sample and a chest X-Ray - all came back clear.

My beta blocker (bisoprolol) has been increased to 5mg - I feel the beats slightly dampened down but still happening.

The doctor there had his take on them - that they're stopping the heart from speeding off into an arrhythmia and that they were monitoring me to ensure there was no break through rhythm.

So, today I'm now resorting to alternative treatments reported on the net - one being 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper in an 8oz glass of warm water - I took this a few hours ago and I'm waiting to see how the day goes - there's quite a bit about this 'tincture' documented and researched across the net - just a thought I wanted to share with everyone.

You are right emily, I think that the vagus nerve have a lot to say for itself.....  When I sit up in bed, and recline on my pillows, my ectopics always start, making my PR plummet to 34bpm, which is unsettling to say the least....  wish I knew the exact pathway of this nerve!!

      Hi again,

I searched for a diagram - the one I looked at showed it running from the neck to the abdomen - there's a stimulus above the belly button and the whole nerve looked as though it was slightly to the left????

I was told when I felt it kicking off to move, to cough or to go into the feotal (?) position to try and resolve

      - and like K3rivers, to eat small amounts so as not to annoy the darn thing! X

Hi Emily, Like you, I suffer from low heartbeat, which is partly due to my 7000 ectopic heartbeat per day!! Had all the tests in hospital, including 7 days heart monitor which showed: Bigeminy, ventrical ectopics, sinus tachycardia, but was told that it won't kill me!!  They gave me some tablets which made things worse, and had to stop taking them.  I sympathise with you, as feeling your heart stop, and then start again with force is not nice. My heart rate goes down to 33bpm for a few minutes, then 60, then down to 40 again. I have been offered to take some beta blockers, but shying of them for time being, as, I was told that it won't lengthen my life, but just help the symptoms. So, I am going solo, and living with it! I read a lot about it, and found a few things which could help: Magnesium Chloride 143mg, a little organic molasses, Q10 on low dose, but better than anything; exercise! The problem is that as soon as I stop, the ectopics start again, can't walk 24h a day!!  But, be sure that it won't kill you, although it is hard to believe when having ectopic attacks.....    We all must learn to try to ignore them and carry on what we are doing regardless, and show our heart who is boss!!!!!!  Take care Emily, and know that you are not alone. x

      WOW.

Dear Marie-Christine that is a variable heart you have.

I have similar symptoms that you describe but not quite as severe.

I asked my doctor about the magnesium thing but he said too much can be even worse so I had a blood test to check my levels and was normal so don't want to take a supplement in case I overdose on it.

Am seeing him again next week to see what he has to say.

      Thank you for your post

      Best wishes

      Hi Polo

Sorry to hear about your ectopics.

I am 53 and have been getting them for about 4 years.

Some people on this forum have been getting them a lot longer. ..one lady over 40 years.

It doesn't help much I know just because other people get them. ..they are still very worrying but we have to try and control them best we can

      Good luck

      Dear Polo

I'm sorry no I don't have an answer to your question.

I think different people find different things may help. I find controlled breathing and leaning forward eases the symptoms but doesn't stop them completely.

Good luck with whatever you try.

Hi Gap.  You are right to have your magnesium level checked.  I have not bothered, as I am also diabetic type 2, and had to have a lot of attention this past year; don't want to overdo it!!  I am only taking 143mg of magnesium,  with 238mg calcium included in the tablet, per day, so, there is no real chance to over do it, as, if this was the case, it would be flashed out of your body naturally.  Raw cider vinegar with a little manuka honey, half a teaspoon of organic mollasses, a pinch of unrifined sea salt, freshly squeezed lemon with cayenne pepper and a tea spoon of mapple syrup, are all my first aid fix for my Ectopic Beats. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't!  Do you find that sitting up in bed with your back against the pillows make them start? I wonder if there is a nerve in your back somewhere between your neck and your shoulder blades which, when pressed, agrevate the symtoms? Thank you for your reply Gap.

Hi Polo, yes, I am already taking 2 cap full of raw cider vinegar with a touch of manuka honey (to make it more palatable)... and yes, it seems to help. Thank you for your reply, most appreciated.  MC I am amazed of how many people have problems with their heart! An other thing which help a lot is, exercise!  Started very slowly first, but now can swim foe 2h once a week, walk 2h twice a week, and cycle 1h 30mns twice a week, the rest is gardening, but all very slowly.  In the beginning my heart retaliated big way, but, I did not give up, and it seems that it knows who's boss now!  After eating is an other cue for the ectopic to start, but, I now ignore them, as, it is now very clear that we won't die from them.  I just hope that they will go in time. Have refused all the heart medecine, as, they won't lengthen my life anyway, and have made things far worse......  Your heart is a muscle, and low impact exercise make it stronger. It might in turn help the electric?  Thanks again Polo.

PS:  forgot to tell you that I also had extended DVT in the knee, 'And' a completely blocked Illiac Vein leading to the heart, hence spending 3 weeks in hospital, and had a 20h Trombolysis treatment! ( Loads of wires inserted in the back of your knee to the heart, delivering drugs to enblock the veins)!  Had to have 2 stents in the Illiac Vein, so, am on Viraroxaban 20mg for life, as, to stop blood clots forming in the stents!  Must say that the heart problem started around 9 months after my episode to the hospital.  But, I had ectopic beats before, so, cant be that!!  Am on Metformin, and Rivaroxaban every day for life!   So, just to give heart to people who have just a few ectopic beats; you can survive a lot more!... Hate to take these medicine, but, as they say, I am snookered!!

      Hi Marie-Christine,

Yes I've believed that when I'm sat in bed with my back propped up with pillows that the strain on my neck, back and around my throat causes them to start too! I've got out of bed and stretched both arms straight and upwards to change position to try stopping them, it works sometimes.

I don't know if you drive but I find when I'm crunched in the middle of my abdomen they can be horrendous and feel like they're never going to let up and even when I'm doing the dishes I can feel them from my abdomen (whilst noticing I hold my breath and not know I'm doing it).

I show my husband all our groups posts to show him I'm not alone and that we are all posting very very similar things... we must be into this vagus thing and be right?!

      Take care

I find it interesting I have never seen so many people with heart issues is it our food our lifestyle or payback for what we've done to the planet! something has definitely happened because not until this generation have I seen this happening to so many people even at very young ages.

I have definitely seen on my own perspective that at the time I used to get my monthly they are much worse and also the link with GI and the vagal nerve.

and I am so sick of a doctor Saying live with it. haha!!
