Ectopic Heartbeats

Hi,

I'm Thiban. 28 years old. I'm having ectopic heartbeats for past 4 years. During the initial stage I'm unable to identify what was wrong in my body as I can feel some sensation at trachea. Then, over the time the symptom started developing and I identified its actually the beats causing the sensation. I visited a cardiologist and did several test such as 24 hours ECG, echocardiogram and the dr confirmed that I'm having ectopic beats. He commented during day time I had multiple ectopic beat where night there is no ectopic at all(during sleep). So far I don't take any specific meditation but I'm noticing recently I'm having terrific ectopic beats like every 2-3 beats I got ectopic beats(either skip beat or add). I'm so much worrying about it and it's really scaring. I'm clueless what shall I do to get better.

The first thing to do is not to panic as anxiety is a known factor for many people in causing ectopics.

I suggest you then read some of the very long threads on this site , as you will find much good advice and reassurance.

In a nutshell the medical profession are often dismissive of the problem. There is often no apparent reason why people start a bout of ectopics and equally no good reason why they seem to go away.

Look at basics first. Are you overweight or unfit? Have you changed your diet? Moved house? Started a different personal relationship? Started using different cleaning materials or are working in a more polluted environment? Moved your internet server close to where you sit? Stopped exercising? Experienced more stress?

Its worth keeping a detailed daily diary that might help you to pinpoint causes and avoid them in the future.

A cure recommended by many is to stimulate the vagus nerve by burping, or breathing evenly. Again you will see these suggestions and more on the various threads. Its well worth spending a few hours reading them as they will reassure you that there are many people with similar-and often much worse-ectopic problems.

Thanks for the informative reply Tony. As you suggested I'm reading the forum's comments and now I'm getting a picture on what to do next. I have a balance BMI and my workplace has a clean environment. On the other hand, I don't spend much time doing exercise as I'm pack with my work loads. Moreover, I have a little concern on doing exercise. I'm afraid doing exercise might cause some serious issue. Whenever I play badminton I can hear my heartbeat like putting the heart beside my ears. I always feel tired easily. I haven't started to concentrate on diet so far. I have no idea on what to improve on my diet. Recently, I'm feeling shortness of breath even if I don't do any physical movement. This is also worrying me but I always try to divert me from sink into these thoughts.

During your visit to the cardiologist he presumably has checked there are no other underlying heart problems such as angina?

If the doctor is confident you are having ectopics and there are no additional heart concerns, then you will see from the hundreds of replies that there are many things you can do to improve diet, of which cutting out caffeine is invariably one of the first.

Some advice seems contrary to the accepted notion of good eating, for example due to tyramines found in bananas beans, yoghurt and nuts etc, some say you should avoid them , whilst others say they are vital for getting correct nutrients.

That is why a health diary might be useful as you can see what affects you and what doesn't, but don't give up the heathy things unless you know there is a definite adverse cause and effect for you.

Getting enough sleep is said to be vital and keeping blood pressure to below hypertension levels also essential

Do you know your blood pressure morning and evening? Don't be obsessive about this but blood pressure devices can be bought cheaply at chemists or your doctor could easily arrange a test.

BP should be checked regularly, say once a month unless there is a cause for it to be more frequent.
