HI, would really appreciate your advice. Was started on Efexor 150mg four years ago by gp for depression and generalised anxiety disorde. It never helped the anxiety and is only so-so with the depression. Should I ask to be referred to a psychologist?

When I found venlafaxine wasn't controlling my depression, the psychiatrist added on mirtazapine, and the combination has been successful for me.

There are lots of different medications for anxiety and depression. Maybe you need a different tablet all together. I'd see your doctor again and see what they suggest. Good luck x

If the Effexor has not helped you after four years, then I think you need to discuss this with your doctor.  There are a lot of different anti depressants you could be prescribed.  What suits one person may not suit another.  For instance Effexor helped me a lot with anxiety and depression, but it obviously does not work for you.

Have a discussdio9n with the doctor first.  He may refer you to a psychiatrist.  Best you find medication that deals with your anxiety.

if you do have to come off the Effexor, do it slowly, as it is a difficult anti depressant to withdraw from.
