Effect of operation on finger nails

Posted , 11 users are following.

I am 12 weeks post op and have noticed that my nails are looking a bit dry.  On further investigation I noticed that I have a horizontal ridge on each finger nail at roughly the same height from the base.  Finger nails apparently grow about 3mm a month and as the ridges are almost 1 cm from the base it looks like the effects of the op are showing on my nails.  Has anyone else noticed this?

The vertical ridges have gotten more pronounced and brittle but I don't have any horizontal ones.

However my hair thinned even further and is very, very dry. Worst though is that my skin (esp in my face) aged 5 years. 😯😕

Very frustrating and I was very careful to increase my intake of water, vitamin E and gelatin.

    Happy for any advice.

There are some signs that fingernails with horizontal ridges could be a health issue. I had vertices ridges and had a vitamin defficency. Best to check with your doctor he knows your health history.

I agree. I have always been led to believe that ridges on the nails are a vitamin deficiency issue.

I noticed some deep grooves a few months after my first hip replacement surgery (one month after my second hip replacement). My dermatologist mentioned the correlation between major life events and Beau's lines. Wish I was warned ahead of time...perhaps I could have prevented it?!
