Effect of steroids on OLP

Hi

I was prescribed steroid gel for my mouth and initially it really helped. It even looked as though my OLP was in remission. I tried to cut back on using the gel and I noticed my mouth got sore again. I have also noticed my mouth is very red in patches, patches where it wasn't red originally. These patches are not sore so my question is whether this is a side effect of the steroid gel as opposed to the OLP?

Thank you for your help. x

Hi I have Oral erosive lichen plan is for about 5 years now what works for me is Dexamethasone as a mouth wash, I used 4 times a day for 5 minutes, if I do less it doesn’t works. So far I have been without terribles flares it looks pretty normal. I see a Pathologist specialist in oral lichen planus also. Good luck

Thank you for your response. I've started using the gel 4x a day again and my mouth looks almost normal. It must have been the OLP making it look red. As soon as I cut back the dose, the OLP flares. Hopefully at some point I will be able to stop the steroids as I really don't like using them!
