Effervescent, dissolvable or liquid PPI to reduce stomach acid?

Hi there, I am currently trying to treat what my doctor thinks could either be silent reflux or possibly something else but I am waiting for a barium swallow and naselendoscopy to find out what. I need to try and get some kind of relief as I am going back to work soon and I will be miserable all day if I have to put up with constantly aching.

My main problem is I have been prescribed omprazole capsules which I have had trouble swallowing and they don't seem to be helping. I have opened the capsules and put the pellets on a spoon with water and swallowed them that way but it doesn't feel as though I'm actually getting the full dose as they stick in my mouth and cheeks.

Does anyone know an alternative to omprazole that is effervescent, dissolvable or  anything else?

Under prescription or over the counter I don't mind.

Also I am aware that I should speak to a doctor or pharmacist about this and I have booked an appointment however while I am waiting I thought I would ask here.

Hi Emma, i too have problems with taking normal pills as i  am intollerant to the coating so my GP has prescribed me Lansoprazole 30mg Orodispersible tablets that just melt on the tongue and Ranitidine 150mg effervescent tablets that get dissolved in water.

Im afraid i cant say yet whether they work as the Lansoprazole ive only been taking for 3 weeks and have only slightly noticed a difference and the Ranitidine i only got today so havent started them yet.

I completely feel your pain as the pain from acid reflux is the worst ever. i have had all sorts of stomach problems for 4 years now but can cope with them all more than the acid reflux. The trouble is Doctors dont believe the pain you are in and just keep brushing you off. i hope you get some answers soon and definately ask for these meds x
