Elevated ALT and AGT on Humira

Hi.. Such a beautifult day. It was, that is. Following one of the previous discussions here, trying to understand what is going on with my body. Asked for "interesting" blood tests from the family dr. Most tests are not back yet, but AGT and ALT just got back elevated. Two months ago they were perfectly in range. Humira shot should be taken next week, no drs/nurses (long weekned for all). Did anyone face such a situation here? I probably won't take the shot, but I wonder if there was someone here who did take it and what did it do... Thanks :-(

Not sure what AGT is but ALT is specific to the liver and measures an enzyme that leaks out of liver cells when they're damaged. To my knowledge Humira doesn't stress the liver (but I may be wrong) I suggest you google humira side effects liver. However, the drugs often given in combination with Humira such as leflunamide or methotrexate DO stress the liver. Prednisone can give some weird liver readings too although that's fairly rare.

Have you drunk ANY alcohol in the last few days? A heavy coffee drinker? Smoke? Eat foods high in sugar (including frucyose and corn syrup) or high in additives (junk food!). These all put an extra load on the liver which may already be working hard. Also some over the counter NSAIDS (Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs) drugs like Nurofen, should not be combined with Methotrexate.I take Humira and Leflunamide. I need monthly blood tests because of the leflunamide and what it can do the the liver. From my own experience, a high liver reading is more likely to be due to other factors, rather than the humira. Check what else you are putting into your body that may be putting your AST levels up. AND SEE YOUR DOCTOR ASAP. An unhappy liver is not to be messed with.

Hi Ama; I agree with Gail.....if concerned, ring your GP/primary carer before the weekend, and see if you can get an appointment......stress that you are concerned re ALL, and need answers.............good luck......Bron

Thanks Bron and Gail, not a heavy drinker, no steroids, no junk food, no extra sweets or sugar. Only Humira and some stupid antibiotics that i took for a local inflammation for the past two weeks - that could cause elevated liver enzymes in principle, only it's not the first time I took it. Unfortunately. it seems that my cortisol is too high too as well as blood fats (double since two months ago). Waiting in anticipation for other tests to come back... Something is also wrong with one of the lungs (chest pain and general joints pain for a week or so but without fever/coughing so I addressed it to AS). Turned out that one can actually hear something in chest examination. Going to have a chest X-ray in the clinic's first-aid ER today and another consultation with drs there (the one that saw me today "lovely" refused to take responsibility for any treatment and rolled eyes at the results asking who on earth asked for these tests. I did... at least my family dr is very good at getting along with my weird test-requests... when he is not on vacation... my luck...). Thanks again. No Humira next week for sure. If I have pneumania, I don't know if I can take antibiotics for that because of the tests.
