Elevated CA 19-9 levels.

Sorry I couldn't find searching tool in community, so i had to ask by starting a new discussion.

My little sister was having pain in few days in her abdomen, so went to gynecologist. It turned out to be a cyst in her ovary. He tested for some tumor markers as well, so CA 19-9 level was 75.4 (ref. value 0-37) He sent us to General surgeon for further testing. GS made an appointment for colonoscopy . My sister is 22 and has digestive problems time to time. She doesn't have weight loss. She doesn't care much but I'm worried as hell. Could this be a colorectal cancer? What might elevate CA 19-9 levels other than this? She was receiving acne treatment, can this effect the CA 19-9 levels?

Thank you.

    hello,

so sorry to know that ur experiencing so much anxiety, but its quite understandable.

does she have general fatigue? any nausea after eating? did u get the liver function tests done?

ca19-9 is usually done to check condition of pancreas. if your sister has a cyst on ovary the it's prudent to go for ca125 test.

An ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis will clear all doubts and can diagnose what is the cause of elevated ca19-9 .

acne treatment sometimes does involve in taking hormone pills, which can cause cysts. Its also imp to find out if ur sister is PCOS clear or not.
