elevated creatnine level

My creatinine level for the past year has elevated to 2.39........Doctor sent me for ultra sound of my kidneys. A complex cyst was present. But that cyst has been present even when my creatinine was normal.

Should I be concerned with a Creatinine level at 2.39?

My creatinine at present is 122 but that is a UK reading, so perhaps someone else will come along who understands the equivalent from outside the UK in order to advise you.

    Hi,

That would translate to 239 for uk purposes and yes it is elevated. There are no normal levels it all depends on the person but they recon under 110 (1.10 for you). Have you had blood tests? kidney function, full blood count etc it would be useful to see what the results for them were.  Just a creatinine result doesn't really give that much to go on.

      Helen,

I am scheduled for a CT scan of my kidneys June,6. I had a Ultra Sound on my kidneys, and a complex syst was found. I had 43 treatments of radiation done 7 weeks ago.through blood test I was found to be anemic. I think I am past that now, doing well from the radiation.

I am just concerned why Mt creatinine level is not normal. Do you think th CT scan will reveal the high creatinine level.

      Hi,

Creatinine levels are usually done by bloods all mine have been and I have had biopsy's, ultra sounds and MRI's.  Would really like a CT rather than an MRI for a change they terify me and I have had 3 in as many months. Do you drink much fluids, creatinine levels are effected by so much, my guess and its only my thoughts that it is due to the radiation treatment your body has been subjected to.  Its not an easy thing for your body to go through (my dad had it)it really takes its toll.  Did you have readings done before you started the radiation? It would be very interesteing to see what it was and then ask for it to be done in a couple of months after some of the treatment has left your body.  It may be just all that you have been through.  Would be very interesting to look at it that way though and see if it was lower. Ask your dr they may have some some more results and please come back and update.  Please do not worry too much mine has been nealry 700 and I know people that have had 1500 so 7.0 and more for the other so its not excesive just keep an eye on it.  Hope this helps

      Hi helen,

I went through my medical records and looked at my creatinnine levels.

2 years ago the level was 1.06....post radiation it went to 1.52...my family Doctor was concerned for the increase, that is when he sent me for an ultra sound of my kidneys, results found a complex cyst on my kidneys.

He wanted to test my creatinnine again in 30 days. Got the result a few days ago and the level went to 1.37. I was told to drink a lot of water. So, I have been doing just that. you could be right, the radiation couild have caused it to elevate. I will be getting the CT scan of my kidneys June 6 and hopefully the cyst is Nothing to worry about. I have not discussed my creatinnine levels witrh my Urologists, i will be seeing him after the CT scan. so, another opinion on why my creatinine level has increased.

Thank you for your suppport, I am most appreciative!

      Aw no worries,

So down from 239 to 137 (2.39, 1.37) this is a good sign, it has gone down quite a bit so hopefully it was just a blip due to your treatment and as time goes on it will reduce further for you.  Glad to hear this.  A CT scan will have no effect on your creatinine, it also could have been a little to do with the cyst and now it has reduced due to the treatment you have the decrease so there are a couple of things that could of helped.  They tend to leave cysts well a lone unless need be and you will more than likely be monitored and have scans to check size at certain intervals.  Glad creatinine has decreased that is the news I was hoping for, for you smile
