Elevated LDL

Hi guys,

I am a 24 y/o(I would say healthy) female. Average weight and BMI. However, recently I had a physical and my LDL cholesterol levels were 142, which is 42 pts above ref range and my total is 13 pts higher. My HDL is normal. My Dr said not to worry, but he wasn't very concise with what I should do next. Eat healhtier and exercise? Why is my cholesterol this high...I have always had elavted levels since I was young and BP too. My dad has high chol and other issues, of course I have all his WONDERFUL genes. Is genetics really a huge factor in this? If so am I doomed? I must admit I have nit been exercising s much in the winter and I am big on baking so thats a lot of sugar, butter, fat. What can I do to get lower levels.

Hi Laura.I'm a 65 ex bodybuilder and since I was 16 I visit the Gym between 3 to 6 times a week, eat very well and am very healthy. My cholesterol has always been 6 - 6.5 and had really only visited the doctor for ripped muscles. However now ive moved and changed doctors she has now told me that I have got a 10% chance of getting a stroke or heart attack in the next 10 years and has put me on a statin which ive been taking for about 2 weeks with no side effects. So to sum up Laura it doesn't appear to make a scrap of difference what your lifestyle is ,and I'm convinced that its just luck of the draw.. ..

    Hi Laura,

Cholesterol is the fuel that powers the adrenal glands. Lower levels mean you will have less energy. Does your family have a history of heart problems?  If NO, then i agree with your Dr. Don't worry and find a fun thing to do for exercise, like play tennis, swim, jog, anything you like to do like DANCE! you like dancing, don't you?
