Elevated liver function tests

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have elevated liver enzymes, ALT - 72, AST -52, ALP-171. My bilirubin was fine and within the range. I'm really worried. I'm overweight too and lead a sedentary lifestyle. Does this sound like non alcoholic fatty liver? Any advice or help?

Fatty liver is certainly a possibility, & your liver labs are typical for this.

Mild to moderate elevations in liver labs should not be alarming, but this isn't the sort of thing you want going on long term.

Fatty liver usually responds well to a diet free of simple sugars; particularly high fructose corn syrup, typically found in sodas, soft drinks and fruit juice.  Dietary fats are not nearly as problematic as sugars, so focus on cutting sugar, particularly fructose and you should see an improvement in your labs.

Whenever labs show up out of range, a retest, typically in 90 days is usually indicated to see if this was an isolated blip, or if numbers are trending upwards or down.

Hope you get some good results soon!
