Elevated WBC , lymphocytes

Can an elevated number of WBC(10.200-12.200) and abs lymphocytes (4.7-5.3) be due to Epstein Barr Virus infection?

I have been having elevated WBC and lymphocytes for more than a year.

I tested for EBV IgM (negative) and EBV IgG positive - 360 (>20) .

If not, what cause can be? I had more tests for infections and they are negative. Also the peripheral blood smear is good.

I am 20 yrs old.

I would imagine that the virus is the cause. Bacterial infections, viral infections, acute inflammation, chronic inflammation, autoimmune disease and even stress can cause a high WBC.I would imagine your doctor is keeping an eye on your levels. He should be retesting you every 3/4 months or so. If your WBC continues to raise higher and higher, than I would suggest to get referred to a specialist, as some more sinister things, such as cancer, can raise your WBC very high.
