Eligible for Spiration endobronchial valve implants

Hello-My name Leonard, 74 year old and have COPD. I had to move from Mexico City to the sea shore. O2 density is higher on the sea shore. I am on O2 compressed 24/7. I cannot work nor care for myself. I am a potential candidate for Spiration endobronchial valve implants.  Have you or any member of your family received coil valve implants? What is or was their experience?

    HI there Leonard!

i sure wish I could be of some help to you but I know nothing about this. Best to talk to your primary Doctor and get a referral to a specialist who can explain this procedure to you. Good luck with everything.

Dear Leonard, In reply initially I sought to have endobronchial valves implanted in my lungs, but after investigation it was found that I had too much collateral ventilation (where the air finds another pathway around the valves rendering them useless . They tried twice but each time the same thing happened. I then investigated the implation of endobronchial coils (whch grab part of your lung tissue and reduce the size of your lungs -  hyperventialation. They implanted one side whch was successful, but decided not to do the other due to the relative poor quality of the initial lung response. There has been an improvement but it is difficult to quantify. Others who have had the procedure to both lungs indicate a measurable benefit. Hope this helps you.
