Employment and hips are not compatible

I've been out of regular work for two years now. I am highly qualified in my field but that apparently means over-qualified, wants too much money and "too old".

The most disturbing part is that off-record, I've been told that over-50s aren't considered employable because "they will probably need hip surgery soon".

I haven't told any prospective employer that I've already had it done, but still find the bias there. Has anyone else experienced this?

No must admit I haven't had that - I had r hip done at 48yrs in 1998 when I was working for NHS - I got made redundant from them for unrelated reasons in 2005 - I knew then that I was going to need l hip doing soon and told the company interviewing me that it would need doing at some point - they were fine with it . Had left one done in 2014 , although I did go back at 6 weeks post op . R one went bad so I had to have revision this year - area manager said ' that's not ideal ' but then she's not known for her people skills ! I went back at 6 weeks and am fine now . ( 15 weeks) I think if it's a big company then they follow legislation etc , small companies less so . I don't feel I've faced any discrimination from anyone so maybe you've just been unlucky ? Xx
