we usually fill out a survey about our expectations of the surgery.

how we'll feel in the next couple of weeks

no more pain, having mobility etc.

after surgery you will feel pain due to the surgery not because of the hip.

after my surgery i felt great with my new hip but was under due to pain of my muscle and tissue that was cut. I think the work related group is good and therapy commence right after your surgery, meaning once you wake up you should have been visited by a physical therapist. Good Luck and God Bless you.

There is a web site called benefits and work - costs just short of £20 to join but the info they hold and guidanc ethey give is valued far in excess of this - follow their guidance and you will suceed in your claim

take your form  to citizens advice bureau they will help you fill it out, for instance you cant drive for at least 6 weeks, you are very tired , major surgery, problems breathing , awaiting  another operation time to recuperate etc , you dont say how old you are but that is also to be considered, I will  have to be reassessed next year, I have had 4 operations in 3 years and just spent another 9 days in hospital with an abcess in my abdomal cavity as a result of surgery in late august, I will be allowed to retire in january 2016 so the whole excercise of reapplying and having to go through the degrading disability proceedure has to be done.good luck with yours.

You must provide all the evidence you can like copies of hospital appointments and if possible any written evidence of your diagnosis. When you list how your illness affects you make sure you state how you feel on the majority of days. If you have COPD you should be in the support group. You will never recover from that and surely your daily life without arthritis as well is very restricted. Do you get breathless getting out of a chair walking to the toilet? If so you must let them know. My mother in law had COPD and it was awful watching her struggle. You are also not in a position to fulfill WRAG while you are in recovery. This system is a nightmare I helped my sister fill in her forms she has Lupus and was transferring from. IB to ESA. She was put in support group. The forms are ridiculous and some of the questions stupid. The  majority of people would love to work, living on ESA is not a lifestyle choice when you  have ill health. If you have a struggle filling it in ring citizens advice for help. Good luck it can take a while to fill in but give as much info as possible.

Thankyou. I have always provided them with proof and still put me in wrag.

I have about 50 sheets of paper to send with the form.

Due for left hip to be done anytime from January.

Any other help would be appreciated.

      Thanks.

Also our cab has closed so our nearest is bus ride. Which I can't do at the moment.

Go to your Dr see if he can write a letter to back up your case. Surely you are not fit for work. The new system is cruel to the genuine causing all sorts of mental stress making people  more ill.

Letter already done and sent in. Sending copy with the form hopefully someone will take notice.

I also have Raynaud and carpal tunnel

      I am 52.

Good luck with your  application Jane. For such a small amount of money they certainly put genuine sick people through a lot of stress. The majority of people would work rather than rely on benefit, unfortunately not everyone is blessed  with good health. This government should  be ashamed attacking the weakest of society. I really hope  you  are  put  in   the support group. If you need to appeal you must get further  advice.

    Hi Jane,

I can see you have been given lots of advice already.  I went through this process too and the system tested me beyond belief.  I appealed their decisions saying I was fit to work and took them to the tribunal which was very traumatic and degrading.  Having said that the people at the tribunal were very nice and reversed the wrong decision.  The last thing someone needs is all this hassle when they are in constant pain and unable to walk any distance.  You will have to produce as much paperwork relating to your disabilities as possible and fight for your rights.  I had worked all my life (in my late fifties now) and had never been in this position before.  I would love to go back to work and have a day without pain.

I hope you don't end up having to fight the system and I wish you well for your future surgery.  If I can be of any further help please let me know.

      Hi sue

Thankyou. I never had this problem when I was on Incapacity Benefit and I had medicals.

I have had about 10 interviews at job centre under WRAG and in one they wanted to send me for courses doing plumbing. How stupid is that.

I told them and produced proof that I was going into hospital to have right hip done and left hip early 2015 and they turned round and said well you can come in while you are recovering how stupid is that. If course I have said no.

I have a lot of evidence to send with the form which will be sent signed for as I do not trust them.

I will be appealing if they say I am fit for work. I intend to turn up for medical with sticks, splint on my hand and a helper.

I to am 52 years old. Paid NI all my life.

Any more help hun would be appreciated.

      Hi Jane,

Some of the Job Centre's suggestions make my blood boil, they have absolutely no idea what we go through.  Are you due to go for a medical with the ATOS people?  If so, get a letter from your doctor and walk with all your appointment letters from the hospital and all reports you have to date.  To get a copy of the ATOS medical just request it from the DSS.  My report like Frognose was very inaccurate, you would have thought they interviewed someone else!  You cannot be assessed by the Job Centre so request you are sent for a medical if not already done so.  If you do not qualify to go into the Support Group after the medical you can then appeal the decision stating why you think it is wrong.  If you are turned down again by them your next step is the Tribunal.

Another thought, keep a diary of your daily routine, how you feel, what you can and cannot do and show them this at your next appointment/medical.  Hope this has helped a little and keep us all updated.  If you have any specific questions then please feel free to ask.

jane, one thing I forgot to suggest is that you write to your MP what ever his/her   political persuassion they need to understand the stress and the cost that ESA and the profit making french company ATOS are putting claiments through, I believe every tribunal costs about £1000. this system says that they dont trust GPs to make an informed diagnosis as to their patients ability to work. they are quite happy to use  a medical proffessional (this can be anybody with some sort of medical training which may not be relevent to your medical problems), my daughter was really shocked when she came with me and afterwards read the ATOS report which was full of lies. Still I am ranting I wish you luck.

How did you get a copy of your report as whatever the outcome I would like a copy of it.

Did you manage to sort yours out.

I know it is going to be a fight which I am prepared for.
