End of a flare up? IBD

Posted , 2 users are following.

ive been suffering with stomach ache and cramps for 15 months. this is mostly followed by loose stool or diarrhea in the mornings and then ill go to the toilet a few more times in the day. the first doctor said ibs. the second doctor did poo samples and said im showing inflammation in the bowel and has sent me for a colonoscopy. i am still awaiting the colonoscopy (was supposed to have one last friday but it got cancelled )but the doctor pretty much said he thinks its IBD. in the last week id struggled to go to the toilet. im still going but only in the morning and even though ive got pain and bloating still i cant go as much and this is stressing me out more than going frequently. Is this the end of a year long flare up? if my symptoms go away altogether can the doctor still see ive got IBD on my colonoscopy or will it come out clear? I just fear that if it comes up clear the symptoms will return and ill have to go through the whole routine of going to the specialist again.

Sorry to hear this. It's a horrible thing to incur.

It sounds like you have symptoms of IBD thats for sure.

It took about 12 months for me to be diagnosed.

Your inflammation levels would have to be high to get a proper diagnosis but i suspect they would still be high now if you've been suffering so long.

Good luck and hope you get the colonoscopy soon.

thank you for the reply. I cant imagine the symptoms going away 100% as ive hard some sort of symptom everyday for 15 months. I am more shocked than anything that im only going to the toilet once a day and thats a struggle. i also found out i cant have my colonoscopy until september. i am gutted i have to wait so long.

It would be a surprise if you had an IBD flare without steoids (or similar) for it to go away on it's own so maybe it is something else.

I've never been in remission without steroids personally and from asking advise i don't know of others that have either.

What have you taken to reduce symptoms and will you be ok travelling for a month with these problems.

If you are booked for a colonoscopy ensure you advise your travel insurer as you won't be covered otherwise. I've previously had an unexpected 3 week hospital stay as things can change very quickly.

i went for a month last year and was ok but it wasnt as bad. the doctor said i might have microscopic collitis which can ease off without medication but again my mum had that and her symptoms werent as bad as mine. i shall just have to wait and see.
