Endometrial Atrophy

Hello Ladies, I wonder if anyone has been diagnosed with endometrial atrophy. I am 52 and post menopause. After 14 months without periods, I bled fairly lightly for about 5 days in December 2013. I went straight to the doctors and was sent to gynaecologist for scans and biopsy. All came back normal. 11 months later, November 2014 it happened again, but this time was like a full on period. On both occasions I had sore breasts etc beforehand and the hot flushes disappeared. Again, just before Christmas I went back to the gynaecologist and again repeated scans and biopsy. This time they diagnosed Endometrial atrophy as the lining was very thin. There was nothing nasty, no lumps or fibroids etc and the lining was normal, just very thin. The gynaecologist prescribed Vagifem pessaries for 6 months to put a coating on the lining as she said it was due to low oestrogen. I really didn't want to go down the route of HRT as I am a bit nervous of it, so decided not to use the pessaries as the bleeding had cleared up. However, I now am bleeding again and so I guess I don't have much choice but to try the pessaries. I know there is a lot less risk with them as they are not systemic. I have had a white discharge too for a few months and my GP took a swab last week to rule out any infection. I was just waiting for that to come back before I started to use the pessaries, but began bleeding a couple of days ago. I have read that when the lining is very thin it can become ulcerated and presumably that's why it bleeds. Has anyone experienced endometrial atrophy on here, and if so, was you prescribed the pessaries and did they work?

I am 55 and not had a period for at least three and a half years now. The gynocologist told me I had a thickened womb lining of 8-9 mm and a polyp and was scheduled for a hyseroscopy and d and c. They were only able to remove half of the polyp as I am only tiny there and had the hyseroscopy with local anaesthetic. They also put in a Minerva coil and said that would help the lining from getting thicker. They took a biopsy of the polyp and thank the Lord it came back benign, that was January 2013.
three weeks ago I had lower pain not that unsimiliar to a period pain but I thought nothing of it. Last Thursday to my horror I had blood first of all just a bit, so I phoned my doctors and she said she wanted to see me but sadly I couldn't go that day so she said to come see the sister and she would do a swab. On Thursday night I had a lot more blood when I wiped myself and I was so scared. I hardly slept as I know pre menopause bleeding could be cancer. The sister took a swab, and referred back to go see the gynaecologist which I go on the 9th March which seems a life time away.
I had bleeding for two days then it stopped, i still have lower pain as well.
The sister did say I had a clear biopsy two years ago and try not to worry which is not easy.
Obviosly the Minerva coil hast done its job?
oh and I used estriol cream once in around August 2013 again last year around September and again I used it three weeks ago, and it was two days after starting it I got the low pelvic pain, not sure this is connected. I continued with the estriol for two weeks then stopped on the Sunday and the bleed was4 days later, als the sister couldn't find the Minerva coil but I had the same trouble the first time I had it checked.
i am so scared it may be cancer and I have another 11 days to wait to see the gynocologist.
has anyone had a similar experience or can offer some advice I would be nosy appreciated
Thanks

Hi Julie,
I've just read your story and have s similar experience. I started the menopause at age 46, I'm 55 now and was told I have hyperplasia simplex, that was 4 years ago, that was after having had my last period over 2 years previously. I was given a course of progesterone tablets for 6 months to stop the bleeding. The side effects were that I had a buzzy headache and nausea and I stopped taking them after a few months, the bleeding came back my gynae had retired and I never had a follow up appt. However, the bleeding happened a couple of times and settled down by itself after that.
I've recently had more bleeding and another scan today revealed that my womb lining is still slightly thickened, everything else looks fine, no blood supply to the womb to suggest cancer, however biopsies have been done and I was give the Minerva Coil, I'm still not sure how I really feel about that as I have fear of having the same side effects as the tablets produced. I know that the effects are lessened as it's not the same dose as a systemic body dose. I also know that it's helpful in preventing the womb lining building up further and in preventing cancer.
I wondered if your experience on the Minerva was a positive one or if anyone else has experience of this method to control womb lining build up? Thanks :-)
