Endoscopy

HI. Has any one had an gastroscopy done at Southend nhs hospital? If so could you tell me what that hospital is like as having one there next week and at the moment am seriously considering cancelling it, as I'm terrified and am seriously considering living with the inability to swallow properly as I am not sure I am eeven going to get in the room.

Deb, you'll be fine. There are lots of people on different forums here who've been just as terrified as you and have said there was nothing to it. And if you're having difficulty swallowing you really need to find out the cause, so it can be treated.

Have you talked to your doctor about this? I had a friend who was so terrified they actually gave her a general anaesthetic, but I don't live in the UK so don't know whether the NHS would run to that.

In the meantime, click around on the other endoscopy forums. I'm sure you'll be reassured. (And if you happen to come across the horror story I posted on one of them a few months back, don't worry about it. My case was entirely different and was the result of real medical negligence. I'd swallowed my large, spiky denture, which had been embedded in my throat for three weeks, during which time I'd been thrown out of one hospital after another because no one believed me!)

Hi. I hope you are ok now. I am asking as so many ok and bad stories around. So wanted to know what Southend was like as different hospitals treat people differently, so like a human being some like your a piece of meat.

Not had it done but am also terrified and waiting to have mine done at Colchester. They sent me a booklet that explained it all. Did you not get one?
