Endoscopy fear

I am scheduled for endo in a couple days and I’m scared. Not just for procedure and anesthesia but possible results. I had one 7 yrs ago and doc found Barrett’s. One year later new doc did not find any, just some minor inflammation. Now going back for 5 yr followup one year late. How can I keep anxiety at bay and stop this fixation on assuming the worst possible outcome? I’ve been worrying for days now. I haven’t had any noticeable symptoms other than occasional reflux. I do have hiatal hernia discovered during first test. Do others freak out like I do?

It's natural. Any procedure makes you nervous. White coat syndrome gets to alot of ppl. Stay positive. Think happy thoughts. Good luck.

I think everyone worries in fact I don't think you are human if you don't wonder how things will turn out, I've got to request a upper endoscopy when I go to see my liver specialist in 4 weeks as I'm having so much reflux I have autoimmune hep I don't not have anxiety but I am really scared of having the endoscopy but trying to put it into perspective I've been enduring several months of not being able to breathe properly due to reflux n I'm thinking whats 15 mins of discomfort compared to knowing whats actually wrong and then able to do something about it and actually finding out the cause of it I'm wishing you good luck thinking of you don't forget to post again let us know how it went x

Like the other posters said it's natural to feel anxious about your possible results. It's hard to think of anything else when you are waiting for results but do your best to relax and stay calm. Wishing you all the best. Maisie

It didn't bother me so much. The need to know why was greater than the fear. So I thought. My bp at check in time was pretty high. At check out was normal. So I guess I was more nervous than I thought. Lol

Hello Barb. I had an Endo on Thursday. It was the first one I have had since about 2004 when I had my Gall bladder removed. At that time they found a hiatal hernia and GERD. That was about it. Since then I've been diagnosed with Primary Biliary Cirrhosis, Thyroid Cancer (in remission). I was being checked for esophageal varicies, and had a small bowel biopsy. Everything looked ok, except they found a 3 cm submucosal lesion in the distal area of my esophagus. I was very nervous when I went in too. My reflux had been worse and now after knowing I have that lump there, I realize it has been bothering me and I didn't know it. I was freaked out too, but I went through the test ok. I'm where you are right now. I've been scouring the internet looking at esophageal tumors and how rare the benign ones are, which is scary. But I guess rare doesn't mean never right? But my doctor didn't seem that worried about the one they say is in mine. I am supposed to wait for the biopsy of the small bowel, but he didn't biopsy this as it was totally encapsulated and they don't like to break those in case they are cancer. So I've been a mess for the past two days and just today got cleaned up and went to the store. I'm going to the worst case too and I hate that. I'm glad your Barretts was gone. That is great news. I think we have to take it one day at a time. I know I am not the best person to be giving you reassurance, as I'm in the same boat as you. I will probably have to have an endoscopic ultrasound to look at my lesion. On the pictures from the endoscopy it looked similar to a benign colon polyp, so I hope mine is nothing. Please let us know what happens. I'm new here and trying to make sense of all the stuff going on. On the upside, my mammogram was normal this week
