enema?

Hi all
I've been diagnosed with IBS for a couple of years now and always had bad constipation with it. I have not been able to pass stools since last Friday even though I take 2 Senna tablets and oral laxido once a day. Today the district nurse came it and preformed the enema about 6 hours ago now and still nothing? Should this of worked by now?
All I've had is gas and a small bit of blood when wiping... Is this normal? I have a Catheter fitted too so I'm worried the bile is putting pressure on my bladder as well

I'm sorry to hear you are suffering, I to suffer from chronic constipation and have done for the past 2 years. It's miserable.
I was on laxido, then that stopped working even when the dosage was increased. I was then put on a high dose of senna and that stopped working too. I then had to take suppositories for over a year with mixed success. The problem with laxatives is your body becomes dependent on them. I got fed up with the doctors not helping me and increasing the medication which at the higher dosage made me really ill.
I have hemorrhoids and a prolapse due to straining and I am convinced it wasn't helped by the laxatives. I now am struggling to function on my own so I sought help from an alternative source.
Now at the moment I have only come across a few things that worked, all be it in the short term but they may help give you some relief.
Linseeds/fflaxseed- add to soup porridge salad anything, these will help but you must drink water with them. If you put a tablespoon in water over night and drink in the morning this should also help
Go and get a colonic- trust me they aren't as bad as they sound and it kick started my system for 6 weeks :-) if you have these regularly they are mean to tone the bowel in the long term
Cook with oregano, thyme, ginger, drink fennel, peppermint and ginger tea to help with the bloating, gas and discomfort.
Eat sweet potatoes- they are a good source of fiber
Cut out gluten or cut dowdown-helps with the bloat and is easier to digest
try and get to see a naturopath or herbalist or both to get an alternative opinion as I have found them more sympathetic and helpful than doctors who only prescribe laxatives.
Try psyllium husks- a natural laxative
I know there is a lot to think about there but I have tried a lot these past 2 years and hopefully through my trial and error someone else can find relief!
Happy to answer any questions or offer support if needed :-) I hope you feel better soon xx

I know this sounds bad but it's good to hear that it's not just me out there with this! I have only been on the laxido' for 1 week and the Senna tablets for 2 weeks but they are not helping at all, I have a small tear and its annoy!
I've tired the peppermint team and took some acidophilus tablets again with no help! Can this just be down to IBS?
What is a colonic if you don't mind me asking? I do have a poor diet but will try what you suggested and cut the gluten down!
The district nurse is going to phone me tomorrow to see if I have been to the toilet (which is no!) so I guess I will take it from there!
Thanks again for your reply xx

I don't think the doctors understand how we feel about it and how it's effecting us! I'm currently on dulcolux and feel it's not helping at all.
Can I ask if you've had any tests done or procedures? I have asked for them but because I have a catheter just now they are reluctant to send me for any

I'm currently on
Movicol
Lactulose solution
Senna
And none are effective ..
They've done no tests, and have no intentions too, they just think I'm a stroppy teenager which I'm not.. I'm in pain and it depresses me! But they wouldn't understand because it doesn't ruin there life's! I've had to give up hairdressing because I can't stand for long periods of time....

I was on Senna tablets and lactose sachets which made no difference at all! The dulcolux is partly helping but only because I'm taking more than I should be!
I would like some test to see why it's happening but they are reluctant!
I'm sorry you've had to give up hairdressing, if I was you I'd go back and pester them to send you for tests!
