ENG + Caloric test and ENT response

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had my ENG and caloric test on Monday followed by ENT appointment yesterday, test went fine, did not that dizzy, my hearing has improved a little bit but I can't notice any difference.

ENT said there is definitely some problem with left inner ear and asked me to stop or reduce betahistine if it is not working, my plan is to reduce it to 2 tabs a day for couple of weeks and then 1 tab a day for a month and then completely stop.

So far I am able to control my symptoms with diet + betahistine but Tinnitus is not going away. I had balance issue for last 2 weeks but got automatically fixed few days ago, don't know how. Not feeling 100% OK but I can live with this condition now. Hopefully things will get better after winter is over.

what dose of betahistine have you been on?  Based on my experience be careful about going off betahistine.  If you find your condition worsens go back on immediately.

3 tabs a day from last 3.5 months since MD diagnosed but now 2 tabs a day and may be next month I will try 1 tab a day and after couple of months 1 tab after 2 days, I don't want to completely stop for next couple of years.

    Hey Ali,

How long have you been on betahistine?

It takes a few weeks really to kick in and 48mg per day is an an opinion the correct dosage for at least 2 months. The ENT is the specialist and I am but a lay person, however as an MD diagnosed person, I totally believe in bethahistine for this period.

I weened myself off it a few years ago and now do the diet and exercise routine with some medicinal dope drops and am fine. But I totally believe in betahistine, in the early stages.

I am also a believer that your hearing loss or improvement is a critical factor in establishing the taking and dosage of this drug.

    All the best.

I was diagnosed MD in last week of April and have been taking 3 tabs everyday. My symptoms are more related to food allergy, so taking extra care in choosing the food is making big difference.
