Enlarged ovaries

I went to my gyno yesterday for yearly checking.
I´m almost 50 (in 2 weeks !) and I still have rather regular periods (22-24 days cycles).
I have pain in my lower abdomen before my periods.
He did a transvaginal ultrasound and found out my ovaries are enlarged : 3,5 cm for my right ovary and 4 cm for the left one. He said at my age they should rather be at 2cm...
He thinks I have adenomyosis. My uterus wall is thickened.
He couldn't see any cysts.
He told me to have an MRI. I battled yesterday to have one and I'm pretty lucky to find one in 10 days.
On the prescription for the MRI he also wrote there is liquid in the Douglas (which I had already when I had a CT scan 2 years ago).
So I'm making myself crazy.
Why my ovaries would be enlarged without any cysts seen ? What could it be ?
Of course the C word is on my mind 😦
Did it happen to any of you ?
Sorry for my english : I'm French 😉
Thanks for your help 😃
