Enlarged ovary

Posted , 2 users are following.

I had a ct scan done of pelvis and abdomen about a month ago, it showed left cyst of 2.6 cm. And free fluid in pelvis and endocervical canal. Fast forward to today when I went to ER for lower left pelvic pain and bloating plus some blood spotting after intercourse.

The doctor ordered a transvaginal ultrasound , He couldn't see the cyst but my left ovary is enlarged. he told me I needed to see a gynecologist stat and would not really reassuring me. my question is would a CT scan and the transvaginal the sound pick up ovarian cancer?no mass or tumor detected just enlarged ovary

I'm very very worried please help

I see very often that many women go straight to ovarian cancer. Please do not stress yourself with that thought, because there are many less serious health concerns.

The first doctor I went to scheduled me for the ultrasound, and after she could not tell what the image showed. Though she told me not to worry. Luckily, I switched doctors because of insurance and was scheduled for a MRI. I was diagnosed with a dermoid cyst on my right ovary 7x5cm. I was also experiencing pain, bloating and my periods were shorter and late.

This all occurred this year and I've already had surgery to have the cyst removed. Your gyno will probably schedule you for a MRI and if he/she doesn't I would request one because the picture is more clear.

    Hope all is well!

Thank you so much for your answer, it makes me feel a little better. I had done a CT scan about a month ago and it showed A cyst on the left ovary that seems to have reabsorb. This current vaginal ultrasound did indicate that the left ovary is enlarge but no sign of cyst. This is what makes me perplexed, why would my ovary be in large if there's no cyst?

Also I have free pelvic fluid, do you thing that if it was something bad ultrasound and CT scan would've picked it up? Again thank you for your kindness

You're so very welcome. Because you have an enlarged ovary, it may be blocking what ever is there if anything. I would not rely on the ultra sound at all just because of my experience. I truly believe an MRI would be of much help. It actually gives a better picture of tissue and organs than CT scans.

You said the cyst reabsorbed. Does that mean it is filled with fluid?

If it was something "bad" your doctor would have informed you right away. Are you scheduled for any more testing or follow-ups?
