Enlarged pancreas

hi, I had acute pancreatitis last June and in hospital for 7 days, not caused by alcohol or gallstones. Since then I have suffered a chest pain that goes round to my shoulder blades gets worse if I eat rich foods or drink alcohol. My dr has put these pains down to anxiety! I requested to see a pancreatic specialist which after blood tests and a CT scan has said I have an enlarged pancreas?.? I am now awaiting an endoscopy ( camera down the throat ) has anyone had results from an enlarged pancreas??

Also going on holiday in 7 weeks to America and struggling to get insurance as I am now back under a consultant , any advice on that would be appreciated.

Hi Juliet. when you have had pancreatitis you should be on a low fat diet and alcohol free. Normal rule of thumb is 5% per 100g and four small child size meals. No chocolate or cheese etc. this eases the pressure on the pancreas.

its hard at first. Also maintain pain relief you will continue to get random bouts of pain without ryhme or reason.

Caffeine is up to you I find a sainsbury own has a soothing effect others find no caffeine its a case of finding out what's best for you. hope this helps.

I experienced a very similar situation last November. 3 days in hospital. Wasn't alcohol or gallbladder. Similar pains since. I've remained alcohol free but avoiding chocolate and cheese isn't happening just yet. The pain isn't unbearable so I'm still enjoying those treats but in smaller doses. Haven't had any flair ups in the pancreas area so I think I'm doing alright.

    Best of luck to you.

Hi Juliet, I've had most tests but all I can say is I suffer with systs on my pancreas. )(This may be a cause). I'm on my way back to see the speciallist as my problems are getting a lot worse. I'm sorry to say it's worth a thought and well worth asking. My conditions are chronic Pancreatist, gallstones and like I say cysts. Hope this may help because it's while having the endoscopy they accidentally burst one and got out pretty quickly at that time I had 5. I hope you get the answers you need.
