enlarged prostate ?

Hi I have enlarged prostate and was given this by my gp since ive been on it ive had smelly urine back pain on and off and needles pins numbness in hands was given 4 week supply it was starting it but then these symptoms developed later on. but I had to ask my gp for doxycycline 100mg which I had last year when this problem flared up she was reluctant to give it to me but I insisted I needed it as its the only drug that puts things right. I also had an ultra sound scan last year which came back ok so I may have to repeat that again plus waiting on psa and cretnine blood tests these 2 I didn't have last year just a normal diabetes 1 which was ok so now im waiting on these results now to come back. I was also on ciprofloxin 500mg but I came off them because of stomach upsets and that's why they put me on trimethoprim and I don't think they have done nothing so ill start the doxycycline now tomorrow. my ? being can I take further actions should my complaint get any worse here as there repeating all the same things as they done last year. I ment to include the gp as also examined my prostate and it its slightly inflamed I think that's why she refered me for blood tests I had them done yesterday and she said the trimethoprim wont effect the tests which is good to know.

      Hi Derek

      I agree.

I just picked up on the PSA blood test and wondered what the GP was looking for.

I apologise to Paul if I have brought up something not previously considered.

PSA tests are pretty standard with any prostate problems. BPH puts it up and infections more so and your result will probly not mean much under the circumstances.

I had my first PSA test in years last week asked for by a urology nurse with a theory I had not heard before. I said that I did not need it as the 37 grams of tissue was sent away after my my last laser procedure in 2013

was clear. She said that cancer cells grow from the outside of the gland so that collected tissue from the channel created can be cancer free.

ment to say derek the complaint seems to be at bay with the antibiotics but the side effect of pins needles in hands is dreadful on this antibiotic trimethrprim. however i will be starting the doxycycline 100mg tomorrow now as complaint i got hasent gone just yet. and thats why iasked the gp for these as i have had them last year derek and they did seem to put symptoms under control. but she wanted to try the trimethrprim 1st as a 1st line of defence u see but she also advised me to complete 4 week of them 14 tablets in each box derek. i have to admit she was reluctent to give me the doxycycline but she said only take it if its still there and it is so i have checked with her on that score. im just crossing fingers now the blood tests will be ok but i wont no untill next monday derek. but greatful for any help and advise here. im just hopeing its nothing serious as its really worrying me.

As well as two laser procedures for BPH I have been plauged with prostatitis for many years and have been on many antibiotics that did not help. In the main it just suddenly stopped on its own.

Do you have urine retention ? Smelly urine might point to an infection caused by that or a kidney infection. The pins and needles and numbness in the hands is rather odd to be an associated symptom.

Anti-biotics are best used sparingly, as although they usually work ok, and quickly, they ultimately result in resistant versions of whatever bug you have, apparently in your bladder or even prostate.

Research says 90% of bladder infections are due to e-coli and an effective non-anti-biotic treatment is D-MANNOSE, a safe and natural sugar which is clinically proven to cure e-coli (but nothing much else).

D-mannose is readily available from Amazon and similar sources of non-presciption medicines. Recommeded.
