enlarged veins - or hypochondria

Beginning to feel like a bit of a hypochondriac.  A few weeks ago I noticed veins in my right arm and hand really (alarmingly) bulging, a little in my left but not as bad.  Put it down, then, to my weight loss, that the veins could be now so much more prominent.  But reading about vascular diseases makes me wonder.... is this a symptom worth mentioning to my GP?  Is it common?  Is it a pred side effect?  Or am I (hopefully!) just being a hypochondriac?

I have the same exact thing.  I mentioned to the Rheumy and she said no big deal.

I attribute it to the PMR.  Be sure you are not dehydrated.  Drinking lots of water seems to help mine "go back" to a more normal for me appearance.

Thanks!  It's funny, things I would never have paid attention to seem to be taking on more more importance.  i think I need to get a life!

I have noticed on many occations that veins in hands and feet swell. I had blamed it on the heat and hydration. 32 degrees here. My feet have always retained water in the summer but its to a greater extent post pmr. 58 years of age and currently on 3mg and was diagnosed dec 2014.

Not everything we are going through is a pred side effect, although we seem to think it is.  I don't know how old you are, but veins seem to stand out more as one gets older.

Same thing here, in my arms and hands, and I am one of the ones that initially lost considerable weight from PMR and did not gain it back while on prednisone treatment.

Friends and even strangers commented that I looked to be in fierce athletic shape, so I try not to worry about it, and I am feeling pretty darn good these days.

I still have condiderable pain but dont think my bulgy veins have anything to do with pain or prednizone since my dose is so low now. I really think its a hydration problem. I drink alot because its so hot but i also get the sweats really bad so it goes in but i sweat out the water. Its supposed to cool off by thusday this week that may change things i will post again to let you know.

With lots of water intake and sweating you will be washing out minerals so an extra supplement can help to ease the pain. I have the same so do sympathise!

I've been more careful with the water intake - easier to dehydrate with the very warm humid weather we've "enjoyed" here lately - and drinking more water does seem to help.  Easy fix.  Thanks everyone!
