EP Turp is ejaculation Preservation Turp and it is only done in Germany for now and costs about 15000 Euros.

TURP is the standard turp which they drill out your prostate and you will have many side effects including retro ejaculation.

WOW.  I wonder why they don't do it in the USA??? How is it different??? Do you know the mechanics of how it is different?   Iam truly interested in this.

They do it in the USA as well. My father had it done and I can tell by the way he doesn't want to discuss it that he was left with some sexual dysfunction. Get all the facts before having any medical proceedure, it will save you a lot of grief.

Would you mind mentioning where did your father had it done in the US? I know any procedure is risky, thanks for mentioning that. I've had a PAE but the large median lobe and the large prostae made it not that effective.

      Thanks

      Hi John,

I think they still "somewhat drill out the prosate" it's that they try to preserve the bladder neck or whatever allows you to ejaculate. I think the regular TURP dosen't take that into account. That said it's a scary thing to go overseas to have it done for many reasons.  And it's out of pocket. Seaching for a better option...  but I don't know if any exists.

I doubt seriously that the bladder neck would have anything to do with ejaculation.  Having said that I think there is something weird that no one in the USA is doing the E P Turp.  If it was that much better you would think all the urologists would be jumping on the bandwagon.  There has to be "More to the Story".

Perhaps a lot of Drs. are not "jumping on the bandwagon" because they are hesitant to try new procedures  when they are experts in the older ones especially if they are indeed helping people. My father had a TURP and he was very greatful for the relief in uriniation. The RE never came up between us, this was 20 years ago.  Really don't know which way to go.

Have you looked into UROLIFT???? A less-invasive approach to opening things up... if your situation is appropriate for it (prostate 40-80 g, no medial lobe).  If not, well worth the consideration, IMHO...

I have had a "PAE" and a "UROLIFT" with NO sucess.  I would love to try this procedure but not willing to travel to Germany to do it.  I want you all to think about this "logically"- WHY is it only being done in Germany????  Something just doesn't make sense.

      Hi Chuck,

I know what you are saying about why is it only being done in Germany. That said the PAE was not done in the states until recently while it was successsfuly done in other countries. But indeed it's a scary and costly propostion going to another country to have an operation. Not sure what to do at this point as the PAE didn't help enough because of the median lobe and the 120 prostate size rules out other less invasive things. On Flomax and Cialis with limited sucess. Have not tried Proscar type meds as reluctant to effect the hormones.

If you search "Prostatic Artery Embolization: IR Researchers Busy With US Clinical Trials  By Jim Knaub Radiology Today

Vol. 16 No. 5 P. 20 "   there's an informative articel about this.  I have no personal experience with the procedure...

Also I might add that if you go to YouTube and type in "E P Turp" nothing comes up.  I have used YouTube for hundreds of things to gain knowledge on everything from smartphones to guns to music to "you name it".  I find it interesting that nothing comes up which kinda tells me that something is strange about this procedure.

Hi Cartoonman;  Not sure if you guys know this or not but I have had both a "PAE" and a "UROLIFT" with NO luck.  Still getting up 3 to 4 times a night to pee.  So now Iam looking for a new procedure.  I do have an appmt on March 7th to see if it is possible to get a "SECOND UROLIFT" or as I call it a "REDO".   I'll let you know what he says.  Iam at a point where Iam "grasping for straws".   I DO NOT want to get a regular TURP.  As you know too many bad side effects.  I still enjoy a very healthy sex life and take no urology meds.

ARGH!  Sorry to read!  Do you know how many implants were installed in your Urolift?  You may not know that there's a max of SIX "allowed."  I had the six.  Also, do you know what the condition of your baldder is, vis a vis whether there's any permanent "stretch" to it?  Mine is permananetly able to hold about 500 cc even after I void.  Because I value highly my sleep, I still cath last thing at night (Speedicaths; I love em!).  It empties the bladder completely, and I don't have to get up at night at all.  THis was my idea, not the doc's, but he concurred when I figured it out...

Chuck are you shure that your prostate is to blame for all of this? I used to get up and urinate a lot at night but at the time I had no prostate symptoms. I found out that I had Sleep Apnea. SA keeps you in a mild sleep so your body doesn't shut down fully, so your kindneys will still produce urine. Thus making you get up to urinate through the night. If that is the only time it seems to be happening then see a sleep specialist. There are millions of people with SA that don't know they have it and it slowly damages your heart and brain due to low oxygen levels. Take Care.

Hope you are well. Thanks for the reply and  especially your concern. I know there is nothing on youtube.  I just came across this study on the AUA site called “Ejaculation Preserving Trans Urethral Resection of Prostate: A Pilot Study”  Dated 2012-2013. They seem to have a positive result There is also and article on PubMed called Ejaculation-preserving transurethral resection of prostate and bladder neck: short- and long-term results of a new innovative resection technique. co-authored by the Dr. in Germany. I believe there is a Dr. in NY who is doing them as well. i believe with a lower (and maybe more realistic) stated success rate. Really don’t know what to do having had the PAE, a 120 prostate, median lobe and supra pubic cath. Need got try get back normal.
