EPi Retinal Membrane/Macular Pucker

A few days ago I had some blurred vision in my left eye so as I suffer from dry eyes I upped my drops and used my heat pad. After a few days the haziness was still apparent so I made an appointment with my local Optician where worryingly he has diagnosed an Epi Retinal Membrane or Macular Pucker. Apparently this is a membrane caused by scar tissue which as started to contract and caused a 'pucker' at the back of my eye. As well as the shock, my vision is now quite blurred in that eye and I'm suffering with headaches caused I think, by eye-strain. He explained that he wouldn't be refer me to a Specialist as its a years waiting list and that it wouldn't improve and an operation was not recommended but there are a lot who are worse off than me! He did recommend new glasses though! Is there anyone who can advise me as to where to go from here please?

Your optician is probably right and I would think about new glasses first. The NHS treatment for this can cause cataracts to form so unless you have cataracts already and are waiting for treatment for these I would take your opticians advice. If you search online for Moorfields epi retinal membrane you will find a very good article which tells you all you are wanting to know.
