epilepsy: is it visible in EEG without preparation?

I have a friend who has very limited access to medical care, and we don't think her doctor is very good. She has been taking anti-seizure medications for most of her life due to concussion-caused epileptic seizure from a head trauma in her childhood. The doctor ran an EEG recently and says she has no sign of epilepsy. What we don't understand is that she was on medication at the time and the doc made no attempt to induce seizures, restrict her medication or food or sleep, or in any other way prepare for the EEG. He is about to take her off the medication, but she says she gets seizures almost immediately when taken off meds (as she has experienced a few times int he past). The doc says that temporary seizures are normal when withdrawing the meds, but that there's nothing to worry about long-term.

So I'd like to get some more information on this. How is epilepsy (particularly when caused by head trauma) supposed to show in an EEG done without preparation?

Mike have had four EEG's and never had to prep. In my case they found strove lights can cause problems.

Like I said they made no attempt to induce seizures... no strobe lights or any other stimulation provided.

Were you on seizure medication at the time of your EEG's?
