Erection after TURP surgery

I have had TURP surgery just over a week ago. What is your experience as to when you regained an erection. At present I do not have the usual morning erection I had prior to surgery and am a bit concerned. Should I be, or does it take some time?

Hi, did the urologist say that there would be no sexual side effects from the TURP procedure? I was contemplating getting a TURP as well but I'm worried about side effects.

Hi Johnny, According to my Uro ED after TURP is around 9% but it can be treated with meds. So for me ,the biggest issue that I cannot wrap my head around is that after TURP you do not ejaculate normally. The ejaculate goes into the bladder and not as usual, through the penis. It is then expelled with your urine. Apparently the feeling and sensation is the same as pre-TURP orgasm, but I have yet to experience it myself. Some guys have said that it does not feel the same. According to my Uro this virtually a given. I hope you find this useful and I really think it's a huge stretch for your Uro to allege that there will be no side effects.

I've had 1 uro which lasted about a year and 3 turp operations.
I can't answer for other men re: Retrograde Ejac. but for me, I no longer have an orgasm. Its just a dry heaving almost painful stop point to sex. Really horrible. Nothing pleasurable about it. BUT I'm still happy I had the turps done, I can at least urinate !!!!!!

It's been over 3 years since I had my TURP but I don't recall any erection issues afterwards. The doctor advised waiting 3 weeks before resuming sexual activity. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Hi Lee. Thanks for your message, it is very encouraging. Strabgely enough just after I posted my message, I actually experienced a morning erection. So yeah! I am elated,

Bear in mind that the prostate will grow back over time. The retrograde ejaculation is just temporary. Four years after TURP I'm just hoping it doesn't grow back enough to need doing again! I would put up
with retrograde ejaculation any day and I'd rather it didn't grow back.

My experience is that any surgery to the prostate is damaging to both erections and to general sexual feelings.
There is a big difference between a functional erection and what the medical world classes as an erection.
What if most sensation no longer exists? You can still get an erection but there will be limited desire. Only have prostate surgery as a last option. You don't know what you have till it is gone...do not lose it!
