Erection Angle

I would hope that my erection should be completely fine and even normal but I feel as if it is not actually normal. My penis curves in a strange way. Not to any side but it curves down. The angle when I am fully erect is pointing pretty far down and it has always concerned me because I dont think its normal. It occurs closer to the base. Is this normal? Should my penis not curve like that? When i push my erection up towards my belly, the base of my penis pushes into my lower belly. My erection cannot really be pushed towards my stomach. I posted some pictures to give an idea. Please, I would like to know if this is okay.

along the shaft of the penis along the top and the bottom is a fiberous artery that is responsible for the direction your penis goes.  When the penis bends either up, or down and you can feel a tiny lump near where the bent shaft is, the fiberous artery has been damaged on the side where it bends.  You can still have sex, as long as you don't hurt the shaft.  This condition is often reported months after having had intercourse where the shaft has been bent accidentally.  If the condition worsens or becomes painful.  See a specialist.  A GP can't help you with this issue.  It is not known what causes the penis to bend up or down, usually in a location that it didn't before.  And it can worsen.  And it can become permanent.  There is absolutely no medically known way of straightening the penis.  Don't believe those hoaky gadgets you strap on to fix this issue.  The only surgery I know of that applies to this injury is where the physican literally damages the opposite side of the penis on the other fiberous artery in hopes to force it to bend in the other direction.  This condition is most prevelent in men over 50, but not exclusive to that age range.

I am 21 however I am not sexually active yet. Now this has me a little worried. I do not want this to get worse or stay permanent. I am guessing this could mean that the bottom part of the shaft was damaged causing it to bend downward? I do not remember a time in my life where my erections were not like this meaning I have had it for a long time. What should I do?

It does look unusual, especially as it's thicker away from the base.  All men are different down there though (more so than with any other part of the body), and I suspect there probably isn't a real issue, but I'd get checked out by a doctor just in case there is a problem (Peyronie's??).

You could either see your GP, or if you're in the UK, you could go to a genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinic - google "GUM clinic near me" for details.  It would help if you take the photos along with you.  If you could update this thread and tell us what the doctors say, it would be appreciated.  Good luck.

These links are about Peyronie's, though the second one is written for doctors:

I am not sure if this is just a case where all men are different. I am only 21 and am starting to get a little worried now. I could see my doctor however, my pediatrician still sees me even though I am older. Should I see a regular doctor.

If you're in the UK, I'd go to a GUM clinic, but otherwise I'd see a regular doctor, and ask if they think you should see a urologist.  I'm honestly not sure if there's a problem there or not, so you may be getting worried unnecessarily.

The good news is that it's large and goes hard.  Plenty of men would swap theirs for yours...

Thanks for the help. I think I am going to try to see a doctor and see what they say. I can report back once I do.

Wikipedia says this for "Human penis: Normal variations" :

Curvature: few penises are completely straight, with curves commonly seen in all directions (up, down, left, right). Sometimes the curve is very prominent but it rarely inhibits sexual intercourse. Curvature as great as 30° is considered normal and medical treatment is rarely considered unless the angle exceeds 45°. Changes to the curvature of a penis may be caused by Peyronie's disease.

They haven't cited a source, but it makes sense to me.

Hey, what did you find out from the doctor? I have almost an identical penis to you. Good length, downward curve to the same degree, more curve at the base, and also a bit narrower there too. I’ve been like this always too. I feel your concern man. I’d really like to be straight.

Hey! Please update us, Ive the same exact problem...

I'm sorry to advise you that the only treatment for this is to further damage and shorten the length of the penis in hopes to force it to bend in the other direction.  This is not a permanent solution.  The specialist we saw has only had some success on some patients where the treatment has lasted 1-3 years and then the penis curves back to the original direction and curves more than before.  And there is a recovery time in there where healing has to occur without sex. We have decided as a couple that it is not worth the pain and anguish to go thru this only to gain perhaps 1-3 years of intimacy.  We value each other more than to be encouraging a temporary treatment.  The home remedies you read about do not work.

I have seen this before on some people and it seems to be natural and normal. I have heard that you can have work done to correct something like this, but why would you if it works the way it should?

My husband's bend is now at an 80 degree angle.  This is not an issue of things working the way they should.
