Erosive Oral Linchen Planus

I have been googling for weeks looking for advice and help for OLP but never thought to check here until this week. I have read a lot of posts and found it very helpful and informative.
I have oral linchen planus, the first time was 3 years ago, confirmed by biopsy after being referred by my Dentist. It wasn't very bad then just inside the cheeks which I was able to manage by avoiding spicy or hot foods. But this time it is under my tongue and has been so painful.
Finally went to Dentist after putting up with it for about 3 weeks and he diagnosed Erosive OLP. My tongue was so painful I couldn't eat or talk, and had excess saliva. He prescribed Difflam mouthwash and Betnesol soluble for two weeks then a follow-up appointment plus urgent referral to Hospital if it doesn’t clear up. Have to say medication is easing the pain and discomfort and it is going away slowly. I have found some useful tips on my journey around the Internet. Peppermint tea was a life saver, so soothing. Changed my toothpaste for one with no Lauryl Sulphate in it. My diet (when i could tolerate eating again) has been mainly scrambled eggs, smoked salmon (which I couldn't believe would be okay but it was, can’t remember where I found that info), mild cream cheese, soft brown bread with no crusts, lukewarm Marigold Swiss boullion and Haagan Dazs Vanilla icecream which was so soothing especially in this hot weather we've had. I’ve avoided all the usual foods i.e. spicy, hot, meat, fruit, crisps, toast….I could go on!!
The other thing I am wondering about is that I suffer from diverticulitis and previously had IBS. The last two flare ups have resulted in taking antibiotics and both times is when I got OLP. Does anyone think there is a connection between either diverticulitis or the antibiotics

Sorry no I haven't. Also had hysterectomy years ago. This OLP is a bummer, isn't it? How long have you had it?

I'm 68. Had hysterectomy in my late 40's. I had fybroids, nothing sinister fortunately. I am wondering if my OLP has anything to do with attacks of diverticulitis I've had or/plus the antibiotics I took during each attack. I"m seeing my consultant soon about diverticulitis and will ask him if there is a conection. I have found lots of advice and tips on OLP on this site and other sites which has helped. So comforting to hear from other sufferers - at least you know you are not on your own. Hope you are managing yours well. x
