Escitalopram 9weeks

Hi all, I am new here and struggling. I have been on escitalopram for anxiety for a little over 9weeks now. Started at 5mg for about 4 weeks and then up to 10, but had a lot of anxiety, so went down to 7.5 for a few weeks. Increased to 10 almost 2 weeks ago. I have had some good days since, but this morning the anxiety has been awful! Not sure if I should give it more time or look to try something else? Any feedback would be much appreciated. I just don't know how much longer I can give this.

Hi Jane,
just to say you are not alone with this for what its worth.
I have heard, and alot of articles say that these medicines begin to work within 6-8 weeks and I assume that is of a continous dose.
I can only give my suggestion here, but if it was nine weeks with me I would be thinking of seeing the Dr with hopefully a plan to move on by either changing meds or perhaps having a mild tranquiliser to assist with any side effects you may be getting while your body adjusts to the tablets.
I'm sorry i cannot give you any concrete answers...
Best wishes.

Hi Jane, i am in the same boat as you. I have been on Escitalopram for one month. I started at 5mg, had side effects headache, dizziness, nausua and over all just feeling weird. After a week of the 5mg i went to 10mg. Things got really bad. All of my symptoms were intenisified by 100%. On the fifth day of being on the 10mg i had a really bad panic attack and had to go home from work. I called my Dr she said to go back down to 5mg. I did that for about a week and felt my anxiety returning so i decided to take 7.5mg. I have been on the does for 13 days and feel like i am getting worse. For the past 5 days i am having depression and anxiety and flu like symptoms. I feel like i am feeling like i did before i strated the med. Called my Dr. again, she keeps on telling me it could be from the meds or just from my anxitey and to go back down to 5mg again. It's so very frustrating, i just want to feel better. Just wanted to let you know your not alone. I hope you get it figured out and feel better soon. Good luck at the Dr. Let me know how it goes.

Thank you for your reply. This is so hard getting adjusted to a new medication. I am not sure if I will give it more time or make a switch. I will see what my doctor thinks. I'd hate to give up on it too soon. If I knew the end was in sight I'd stick it out longer, but there's no way to know how long it will take. Sorry to hear you are struggling too. It does help to know I am not alone and others can understand. Hope you feel better soon too!
