Hello, after trying celexa 20mg for 10 weeks and not working my doctor switched me to lexapro 10mg along with propranolol 10mg for the physical anxiety and panic symptoms. I'm only on day 2 and was wondering if anyone been on both lexapro and propranolol and if it worked for you? any advise? thanks!

Hi James. It does annoy me when doctors start a different antidepressant and augment it before it has even started with another drug. The problem here is that if you have side effects you will not know which drug is causing it. In addition 10 weeks is not long enough for Celexa to have had a fair trial.

I have not been on both, but I feel you need to be armed with this information. Being switched between drugs like this will make things very difficult for you if it continues.

It is better than giving you benzos like Xanax or Valium, but these things need to be moderated.

Either way, I wish you all the best and hope symptoms improve for you. Please keep us updated with how you get on.

I hope I can help. The past year and 1/2 I WAS on PAXIL for 5 months ,then CELEXA for 6 months, then to LEXAPRO, if I've only found the forum earlier I wouldve of stuck it out on one antidepressant , and not switched to so many SSRI's , as I've learned from the forum , others experiences of these drugs take a long time for most people , me being one of them, I now am going into 7 months of LEX 20 mg am starting to have many more good days, my anxiety was bad, really really bad, I still get set backs but I'm handling them a little better.

SO to sum it up, these meds can take 3 months, 6 months, 9 months or up to a year to recover , as hard as it been for me and now finally getting relief, I WILL not switch again. YOU WILL RECOVER BUT YOU Need TO BE PATIENT. I THOUGHT I'd never recover but on my way to be freed of this horrible anxiety! YOU WILL RECOVER!

Thank you for the reply and encouraging words! One of the main reasons i come to this forum is because it helps me stay positive. So happy to hear you are doing better ans sticking with it.

I know from reading many reviews that SSRIs take time to work but one of the main reasons i had to stopped celexa was because not only did i not feel it working but it also started to make my ears ring (tinnitus). Today is day 3 of the Lexapro and Propranolo and so far I'm doing good. Today i was able to eat, walk my dog and go on a bike ride. No side effects from switching at all so i hope it stays that way. The propranolol has help ALOT with the physical symptoms. My heart rate is nice and steady, no shaky feeling when i wake up and no more butterflies in my stomach so this helps keep me more relax.
