ESMYA - UTERINE FIBROIDS

hi everyone
I’ve just joined this group as I’ve been undergoing treatment for several fibroids largest measuring 8.7cm to rear of uterus which was causing horrendous lower back pain.
I suffered from very heavy painful periods and back in 2008 was advised that the Mirena Coil would help. i was reluctant to have this fitted however going on advice from drs I went ahead. However back at end of 2016 during an MRI Scan for scoliosis curvature of Spine this is when the large 8.7cm fibroid was discovered.
January 2017 I was then sent for an ultrasound whereupon they discovered more fibroids and then told me they didn’t want to operate so basically flung Esmya at me.
I then had the Mirena coil removed and started on the Esmya 1 x 5mg daily never once did any doctor or gynaecologist tell me only to take for 3 months then have a break and restart again.
I attended ultrasound last week Friday 23rd February 2018 to be told that the fibroids have reduced in size however I have a thick white lining around my uterus... I constantly feel like my kidneys are sore and also my abdomen is swollen painful.
I now have to wait until Friday 9th March 2018 for my appointment with the gynaecologist for results.
Can anyone here please advise me if this is normal

Hi Morven,
I was on Esmya for three courses and abandoned a while ago because I wanted to go through MRgFUS and the radiologist said they obtained better results with no Esmya in the system. Anyway, my gynecologist didn't know I stopped and I got a letter just today saying that the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has published a temporary safety measure concerning Esmya in view of some serious liver problems, so I would strongly encourage you to ask your doctor not just about the result of your ultrasound but any further treatment with Esmya.
Good luck!

I'm off Esmya, thank goodness, I had 4 lots of it. I started in August 14 & ended around last September 17 with gaps & Zoladex in between, however. I do have liver symptoms which is a bit worrying, especaially since the governments withdrawl of it recently. I have had right sided pain since June 15 that no-one has accredited to anything yet it is persistent, I am so very tired & my skin colour has a more yellow tinge to it than it used to & I have noticed that for well over a year. I have made an appointment to see my GP next week to speak about testing my liver enzyme level. As I was aware I did have a few small simple liver cysts but my dr said not to worry about them at all, so I simply didn't. Now one of them is the size of an apple fluid filled & pressing on the IVC, & grown to this size since I have been on Esmya. Funny when I went to see a liver consultant I said actually do you think the rapid & massive increase in size could be to do with the Esmya, as I was keen to find out why I had this right sided pain. Even though information online seems to say you can get right sided pain with simple liver cysts, he didn't seem to think so, now that all this has come out he might well! So I would say that for people with liver cysts that there is a probability that Esmya could increase their size. Typically the one that has increased would be in the most dangerous place it could be! Sod's law! I will be writing to the investigation to advise them what has happened to me whilst on this drug it may help them. What I cannot understand is WHY patients haven't been contacted by their GP's or consultants who have been on Esmya & recently finished, (though it appears some have) or who have presented with new liver issues whilst on the drug! I'm a bit disappointed in that, as I feel that should have been done, not only to help protect us, but others, who may have to think twice about a drug treatment. I read the packet in with the drug & it advised to stop after 3 months & wait a cycle then a month, which I did, although when I spoke to my gynie he said don't stop just take it continuously, but I decided to do as it said in the packet. Just for the record it didn't help shrink my fibroid one jot! But seems like it has increased a harmless liver cyst to a dangerous one because of its size & position. Therefore I would not recommend it, at all.
