HI,

JUST HAD A PHONE CALL FROM DOCTORS - BLOOD TEST TAKEN ON TUESDAY SHOW THAT MY ESR LEVEL HAS DROPPED TO 8 AND I HAVE TO REDUCE MY STEROIDS TO 7.5 DAILY.

CANNOT WAIT TO COME OFF STEROIDS ALTOGETHER AS MY WEIGHT IS REALLY GETTING ME DOWN.

Lucky you!!! Had my blood tested on Wednesday.. ESR was down to 12 last month...back up to 21 today!! So disapointed because I have felt so good this month!! Back to the start for me.Anyway..going to be mother of the groom in august..can anyone recomend a good tentmaker? I seem to have put up an enormous amount of weight (about 2.5 stones) not so much as some I know but when youre only a little person (5 foot 2) it seems youre as tall as you are broad!! My husband says hes going to tie my hands behind my back to stop me when I've got the munchies..but they can lock you up for that cant they?

Oh, how I can relate to all of this - I'm only 5 feet tall and I put on 3 stone all round the middle. It was almost impossible to find anything to wear - they don't cater for people with waists in reverse do they? I'd never before had any kind of weight issue and I really think for me it was the worst side effect because there didn't seem to be anything I could do about it. It did and still does make me really depressed. I did find that I lost the midnight munchies quite early on (I was waking up during the night so hungry I'd come down and eat anything I could lay my hands on) but after that even though I tried so hard to eat correctly, the pounds would pile on. (In fact some weeks, I was feeling so ill that I didn't eat at all, and yet I'd still weigh more at the end of the time). Nannypat, after a couple of years of this, they did do some more tests and discovered I had an underactive thyroid. Once the thyroxine dose had been established I did lose a little weight, so it might be something you could have checked out. I still look awful and it's definitely dented my confidence. I refuse now to go out anywhere I'm not known and photographs are not allowed!

I've had an underactive thyroid for the last five years so I cant blame that on my weight gain. The doctor found that when he did a blood test to see if I had started the menopause. I also have Pernicious Anemia and IBS. All of these lead to weight gain, but I just about had it under control when the PMR hit me. You are so right about the depression.. I feel so fat all the time (even though my husband is very good and says I look great, I also know after 33 years together that he is also a big fat liar!!! )

I dont get my photo taken either.. the last one was my passport photo taken last year when I had lost so much weight . I looked so ill in that photo! Of course now I've put on so much weight I look like Mrs Blobby!!! When I went to London In Feburary, they checked my passport twice because it did'nt look like me!! Any way it could be worse.. we could be suffering from an incurable disease.. I know its hard and the pain can be awfull at times, and steroids are rotten and everything just gets us down most of the time..BUT it has to get better sometime..and if you have a big fat liar at home trying to gee you up it helps!!
