ETD and mental illness

So I finally went to the doctor he told me he thought I had etd but wanted this confirmed by an ear specialist, that was two weeks ago.  My appointment with the specialist isn’t until nov 7th. I’ve had this before a few months ago but this time it’s literally making me go insane and it only seems to be getting worse I have pretty severe mental illness and those two combined are so unbearable I don’t know what to do. I don’t even know how I got this which is frustrating.

Curious, if you feel you were diagnosed with Depression/Anxiety DUE to your ETD or were you diagnosed for this before the suffering of it?

Were you diagnosed by a Psychiatrist or your GP or someone in the Otolaryngology field?

Does the prescriptions help your ETD suffering? (I gather NO due to your post).  It makes me wonder as so many patients suffering here seem to diagnosed with a mental illness! Drs prescribing drugs for the brain rather than investigate the true source to this problem.  -V.

      hi ver,

I dont know about anyone else on here but iv suffered anxiety ,social phobia ,and depression since as far back as i can remember not sure if was part upbringing and i was a very sensitive child,,a lot of bad things happened to me growing up,,but i found out over the years because years ago i had a really bad sinus infection ,went to dr and got prescribed these tablets :cant recall what they were now but all i no is when i took them my anxiety and depression which was not bad at that point got really bad,,went back to dr told her and she said some people can react to these tablets like that so she give me antibiotics but even though i didnt take the other tablets i still couldnt shake off the anxiety n depression maybe partly becoz the more i worried the worse it got,,i ended up taking an overdose then hospital ,anyway some more years went by i got ok ,then got another sinus infection ,this time i bought some sinus meds from chemist ,same reaction ,stopped taking them n went to see dr,..to cut it short with talking to some people and my own research once i started using internet i found out that people who are prone to anxiety n depression some meds can exacerbate anxiety etc,,look up meds that can make anxiety worse,,some people can take these meds without this problem,,as like all people react different to the same drug,,example i found another med that made my anxiety level much worse..it was when my ex was taking tramadol for back pain ,i too suffer osteoarthritis and got so bad one day and painkillers i was on did nothing so my ex said try tramadol i was a bit reluctant at first coz he always got all doped up and tired ,confused on them and i had to go to work but in end i took one,,well i had the total opposite reaction to him ,was awful ,heart racing ,shaky.was all jittery and my body itched all over .was scratching like i had fleas,,couldnt sleep ,it actually started panic attacks off which id got under control at the time,,so basically thats why im so scared to take anything im not sure about,,especially sinus meds but now im scared to take painkillers, plus i found out some herbal slimming tablets can cause anxiety worse too,,later again after the damage was done i looked into it and found that there was a substance like speed that can make people prone to anxiety feelings.

all in all i think people that already have some type of mental illness or anxieties some meds can make you go over the edge,,in my case i can get so bad that i feel suicidal which is not good at all,

Oh plus when your prone to anxiety n depression and end up with a lot of pain with other ailments on top it doesnt help with trying to get out of depression as pain etc everyday or struggling with a lot can just keep you feeling down,

Thats my take on it,,and remember some meds that are meant to cure one thing can cause so many other worse reactions than what you were suffering with in the first place,

      take care
