ETD - My story and ongoing pulsatile tinnitus

Hi all,

I'm posting in this thread as I am finding it hard to cope with some ongoing issues I have with my ear, if any of the below you can relate to or have had experience with, your comments and replies would be more than appreciated.

About 3 months ago I started having some pain in my R) ear. I'll break my journey down into bullet points to make it easier:

  • Diagnosed w an upper respiratory infection which was causing pain in ears, given amoxicillin
  • No improvement after 5 days of amoxicillin, got a 2nd opinion from GP, diagnosed with a middle ear infection, commenced on doxycycline
  • At this point the pain and pressure in my ears was so intense I was unable to work, drive, or do much of anything. I was having bouts of dizziness and sharp, constant pain in both ears.
  • Presented to ED and eventually saw an ENT specialist, diagnosed with ETD and spent 3 weeks on prednisone, which helped with the fluid accumulation in my L) ear and the pain subsided but was still present.
  • Went for a follow up 1 month later and was told there is no longer any fluid in my L) ear causing the issue, HOWEVER I now still get intermittent sharp ear pain in my R) ear, and I have 24/7 pulsatile tinnitus along with regular tinnitus.

24/7 I can hear a deep heartbeat echoing mostly in my right ear, and I get pressure build up whenever I bend over or put my head upside down, or when my BP changes from sit to stand for e.g.

I am attempting to see a second specialist for a second opinion. But am just wondering if anyone has any experience with this, and what the timeline was like for recovery, as it is significantly affecting my ability to work, focus, and my overall mental health and wellbeing.
