Euro Lift Input

I am a 73 old male that had the Euro Lift procedure performed on February 28th, 2022. To make a long story short I had a full knee replacement approximately one month prior to the EL procedure and apparently the anesthetic in the form of a spinal tap caused complete bladder failure. To be completely fair I had been suffering with frequent urination prior to the knee replacement and suspected an enlarged prostrate was the culprit. The knee surgery was done in one day, I entered the hospital at 7 am and was discharged at 2 pm. That evening, incontinence started and I had to result to adult diapers, at the same time going to the bathroom every 10 minutes with little to no out put. It took four days but I finally secured an appointment with a urologist and was catheterized with a record amount of urine removed according to the attending nurse. I was on the catheter for over three weeks while several tests were administered, with it removed and re-installed a couple of times to see if the bladder would perform and it did not. One test was to measure the amount of water that could be injected into the bladder before evacuation and I failed it miserably. My Urologist was very upfront about the Euro Lift procedure giving me 50/50 odds it would work in my set of circumstances. One week after the procedure the catheter was removed and I still could not urinate and the catheter reinstalled. Needless to say I was really despondent and thought I could be looking at a self catheterizing as a lifestyle. A week later the catheter was again removed and I was sent home to test the procedure and I urinated with a good steady stream and have been doing so since then and never fail to give thanks after every pee.

In summary I must say the Euro Lift procedure was a real success in my case. I will admit since I have stopped taking Tamsulosin a few days ago, after reducing the dosage little by little as recommended by Urologist, I do go quite frequently, but there is always a good stream. I have a follow up appointment with the Doctor in two months and will discuss it with him. I am somewhat more regulated while taking the medication, but again I am totally pleased with final outcome. I just thought I would post this to give some input to anyone considering the EL procedure, and also to any older men out there in line for a new knee,. You may want to talk anesthetic procedures before going in for the operation if you have prostrate issues.
