Who has had the eustachian tube dilation and it was a success for you! I have met only 1 person. Mine was NOT a success. They say the success rate is 80%. I would like to hear from anyone who it has worked for.....was it instant or it took weeks for you to feel that it worked.??

My symptoms persisted for 30 years after a flight home from Hawaii with a bad cold my rt ear was never the same Went to House Ear here in LA world famous group THEY said nothing can be done . i have bad allergies which made it worsei was dizzy stuffy and had a sense of being underwater . OVER THE YEARS it continued I use Allegra Flonase Nasacort Neti potand have allergy shots YOU just learn to live with it ! I have taught school for 30 years and tried to put ETD on the back burner so to speak MY 3 kids were always aware of being careful flying with colds !!

Flying has been hardI use ear plane plugs and spray Afrin up. ( be careful with Afrin...bad rebound issues) Finally did the Balloon dilation and tube placement . To be continued.....hopefully good results!

The way I have dealt with this is to say "It isn't cancer" and you go on as best you can.

Morning, like you Judi I too have suffered ETD for many, many years and eventually resulted me contracting bacterial meningitis due to the mucus sitting too long in the Eustachian tubes, crossing the blood barrier and bingo it got me.

I have told this story many times since I first joined the Forum

a few years ago. I repeat myself for those that may not have

      read my posts.

I always tell anyone that suffers ETD to be vigilant if it causes

an earache antibiotics would be needed quickly just in case.

I take a daily Cetirizine antihistamine as I also suffers allergies and asthma too, but that's controlled unless I catch a cold, which

luckily I rarely do. I suffer chronic sinusitis all year round.

I will be flying for the first time in 6 yrs this May only to Spain

from England where I live. Doesn't matter how long the flight

is I know it will affect my ears. I buy EarPlanes too and also

I've been advised to cut down the small plastic drinking cups

and cup them over each ear on take off and landing. I really

hope my ears don't block up as it will ruin my holiday with our

group of friends. Unless people have suffered or suffer ETD

they've no idea how miserable it is. Hebce the years I haven't

      taken a holiday abroad.

Sadly, you are unable to get the medication that is so far

helping me. It's called Flixonase Nasule Drops. I think in the

US you can get the same thing but in the spray. However, the

drops are stronger and seem to open up the Eustachian tubes to

allow drainage or at least they pop when I do squeeze nostrils

together, but one at a time. I put my finger in the ear that I'm not

popping, that seems to push the air through better to the other one, then reverse to the other ear. I only use these drops when

ears are badly blocked as they are a strong steroid. I've had

relief for approximately 3 months and it's wonderful. However,

the changing of the seasons certainly affect this problem for

me. I will use a product called Otrivine which is a decongestant

before flying, but like you say mustn't be used too much as we

get a rebound effect from it. I've never undergone any surgery

to resolve this problem, my ENT consultant has told me that it just will not work for me. I have suffered many perforations in my left eardrum. My ENT consultant (whom I see every 6 months) will then use microsuction and get all of the mucus out for me....feels wonderful when he clears it.

I hope they one day find out what exactly causes this issue for

so many of us. For those that Balloon Dialation or gromments

have worked for them, brilliant !!

Hi KELLYMy post is below after an older post I am one month post op ET is open FLUID built up behind my ear drum and i was miserable ! Dr Butler had me come in Friday and he did a myringotomy and tube placement It feels odd still but better than the fluid feeling ( popping squishy sounds and clogged)I hope this helps Has anyone else had tubes placed ? Do you stop being aware of them in there ? This is quite a journey At this point I,m hopeful but wanted "instant relief" so still hoping that another month will show big improvement I did read that full recovery is 6-8 weeks as the ET has been traumatized and is sloughing off tissue in the cartilege section high in the tube

hi kevin/ kelly / everyone here,

I too had ETD for 5-6 years. I had right ear always heavy. I had balloon dilation done 6 months back and now I feel great. Trust me no other procedure will work except this as I tried it all.

I would suggest anyone having ETD go for it. Its not expensive as they use same balloon on many patients as these balloons are built for multiple times usage.

After surgery, it will take around 2 months to fully get relief so dont panic. eace

hello i've been struggling for years! thanks for sharing your success and glad the balloon worked for you. Do you mind sharing the name of the surgeon and where you had it done? what symptoms did you have prior to getting the procedure? did you have crackling noises? what got better after the surgery? crackling is all gone with swallows? thanks for sharing!

Yep everything is fine with me now. Please find any good ENT near you and explain your situation. Ask for this procedure. It does not have any risk too.

I was as miserable as all these people. I could have given anything at that time just to get rid of it. Now when I look back I feel sad for myself to even bear this for so long when it could be easily treated through a small procedure.

I dont know why doctors are still hesitating to pick this up. Only because a bit new procedure.

Go for it, dont worry, you will be fine, trust me.

i was told it can cause patulous euetschian tube problem for some which is worse than eustshian tube dysfunction?

      hi,

this procedure has minimum to no risk. every procedure has some risks associated. so its upto you. if u want to take a leap of faith and get better or you want to take no risk and be in same state.

it worked fantastic for me. thats all i can say.

    Hey everyone

A week ago i had my balloon dilation of the eustachian tube, septoplasty and turbinoplasty.

    my symptoms are:

    1. Constant ear clogging.
    2. Ear pressure.
    3. Click sound in my ear.
    4. Occasional ear tinnitus.

The doctor told me that i should witness improvement after 4 weeks. during the first week after my surgery, the ear clogging and pressure elevated however this was expected given that i just had the surgery.

im crossing my fingers as i have been suffering from ETD for the past 2 years. hopefully my symptoms will disappear.

it is worth mentioning that my doctor performed this surgery 14 times and only 1 was unsuccessful.

I shall post an update whenever i witness any improvement.

Tinnitus & Ear Pressure are the worst. Hope they go away soon.

Do you mind letting us know which dr performed the balloon dilation surgery?

      Blessings.

Just to provide you with an update on my case.

Today is day #24 post the operation and there is no improvement whatsoever. The weird thing is 4 days ago my tinnitus frequency increased yet its still mild (i mean by mild that any distraction/noise can easily mask it). i can only hear the beeping when it is extremely quiet plus it goes and come back unexpectedly.

ive read somewhere in this forum that it could take up to 2 months to fully recover. so hopefully my symptoms disappear.

i haven't lost hope plz pray for me.
