Who has had the eustachian tube dilation and it was a success for you! I have met only 1 person. Mine was NOT a success. They say the success rate is 80%. I would like to hear from anyone who it has worked for.....was it instant or it took weeks for you to feel that it worked.??

I've had this Eustachian tube problem as long as I can remember and older I get, the worse it gets.

Symptoms I have are following: crackling and popping ears (have to force blow my ears "open" many times a day even when there is no pressure change), my ears are really sensitive to noise so if I'm in loud noise environment, I have to use ear plugs (going to a bar without a pair is really painful). Also when flying, I have to to blow my ears open 20 to 30 times during decent or it feels like my head is about to explode (worst pain I have ever felt).

In 2016 I got the balloon dilation surgery done and it didn't help at all. Also it was done in local anesthesia which I can't recommend to anyone, hurts like hell. After that, doctor put tubes in my ears and even with the tubes, no changes. Still had all the same issues.

Only time I've had any relieve of the symptoms was when I dove from a boat to water and ruptured my ear drum. Pain medication took away the pain and I flew the next day and didn't have any issues with equalization so I guess I need big enough hole in my ear drums to make the problem go away.

I read the thread and will try that 20 second technique that was shown on that one YouTube video and see if that helps. I also want to call my doctor about opening up my airways in my nose since someone here said that it helped. I don't know if I have any problems with my nose but I can say that when I try to breath trough my nose, it feels like I don't get enough air.

Hi Teemu, oletko suomalainen? If so, how and where did you receive the balloon dilation surgery? I have suffered from ETD for months now and I'm also looking into the surgery. thank you!

My ENT mentioned this fairly new procedure of balloon dilation as a treatment for my chronic left ear fluid build up. i have been looking for info about the procedure and have found very little. Mostly, the sites I have found are from ENT practices that perform the procedure. i joined the forum hoping to hear from patients that have undergone this procedure or patients who are thinking in undergoing this procedure.

this is an old post, but I wanted to give my experience in case someone is looking for it!

I had TERRIBLE eustachian tube dysfunction after having Covid last year. It was unbearable, I had ear tubes put in but my left ear got even worse / clogged all the time, unbelievable pain etc. I had the dilation procedure done at Northwestern about 3 months ago and my ear is about 90% better. I was nervous about getting it done, and almost cancelled the appointment after reading info online, but I am so glad I ended up doing it.

The pain and clogging went away in about 6-8 weeks. be patient after the procedure because it takes a while to see results and the inflammation needs to go down. However, I did develop a fairly bad sinus infection about 5-6 weeks after the procedure (only on the side that the dilation was done) confirmed with camera exam and nasal swab, but it was a small price to pay for fixing that unbearable pain and clogging that the ETD caused!

      Hello,

its great to hear that your dilation procedure was a success . I, too, am a patient at Northwestern (Dr Matsuoaka) and am curious as to who performed the procedure?

      Thank you,

      RG

i had the dilation balloon done twice with no success. I am now getting allergy shots. I am told that the allergies are the cause of my clogged and pressure feeling. i also have muffled hearing when i speak.does anyone else have these problem. If so, what helps you.
