Evening Primrose Oil

Hi Ladies,

I am getting ready to start taking Evening Primrose Oil, and looking for honest feedback on whether it has helped you? What symptoms did it help with? How much/how often did you take? etc.

My main symtpoms right now are frequent recurring pain all over (muscles, joints, tendons), hot flashes/night sweats (not drenching, just enough to wake me up), unpredictable periods, waking in the morning in panic mode, low stamina, horrible mood and low appetite until late in the afternoon/evening.

Thank you in advance for any info (good or bad) you can share!!

I take it for breast pain that wasn't anything pathological. It has definitely helped. It wasn't instant for me. I noticed a difference in about a week. taking the recommended dose on my 1000mg bottle was 3x a day. After roughly about a months I cut back to twice a day and still works.

I went to a breast surgeon that my Dr referred me to because of breast pain and a ridge on my right upper breast (I has costo chondritis in that area). Anyway she said all good, and she said take vitamin e but be aware it is a vitamin you cannot pee out. I said I had heard evening primrose can help. She thumbed up the evening primrose. I don't take vitamin e because I try and get it naturally in food. But evening primrose? Works for me. I am postmenopause almost two years, and 51 years old. I haven't had night sweats since I have been on ep but I cannot say if it was that or just hormone fluctuation. But it has definitely helped with breast pain.

Thanks so much, Keljo, for the insight!! It's good to know it got the thumbs up from a Dr, and a good rating from a good meno-friend!!

I take 2 x 1000mg capsules every day, and it's helped hugely with anxiety. I would thoroughly recommend.

It definitely works for me...I started to feel a difference initially after about 2 weeks. Now, if I don't take it, I start to feel far more anxiety after a couple of weeks, but it only takes a few days of taking it for it to start to work again. I've never spoken with my GP about the anxiety because I didn't want any sort of drugs for it. When I started the run up to the menopause the anxiety started, especially in the evening. I would be lying on the sofa and my mind was going round and round thinking about what I should have done that day, then money, my family, the future, you name it. My stomach would start churning and I'd end up feeling as if I was going to be sick or pass out, it was horrible! Thanks to EP it is massively less now (I actually started taking both EP and Starflower Oil capsules but they are really expensive, then I discovered that EP works just as well on its own). I buy mine in Tesco (if you are in the UK)...it's a 90 x 1000mg capsule tub for £4.50, and it's usually on a 3 for 2 offer, so 270 capsules for £9 which lasts 135 days. 6.6p a day, bargain! Give it a try, you have nothing to lose and potentially a lot to gain, good luck xx
