I agree with caroline but there's something else I always mention and that's to ask your doctor for a blood test to check your thyroid function. An under active thyroid is fairly common as women reach menopausal age and it's symptoms are very often mistaken for the menopause. While I agree you are menopausal it's definitely worth checking.

Hi Marion I have under active thyroid I am on medication for that and they refuse to do a blood test to check it because I get yearly blood test and not due until October I was at doc last week she suggested I come of the patch for 2 months to see how my body reacts without treatment.which to me is silly and don't want to because I was worse and that is why I got put on them

You should see another doctor if your not satisfied with the one you saw you need a second opinion that's what I would do

I am so with you on this! I am also 43 and at the end of last year couldn't stop barking at my whole family, everything my husband did irritated me and I really thought we had come to the end. I persuaded my GP to run tests, all except oestrogen cam back normal. With some persuasion he started evorel patches 50, and like you I have a mirena coil. Things improved and life was a bit sunnier. Recently all the symtoms and arguements and feelings of life and husband being disappointing returned. I went back and upped the dose to 75. Again I am feeling better.

I suggest you go and get some bloods done to rule out other causes, cut down on booze if you are drinking much, up the patches and see how you go. If no improvement you might need to look at counselling / CBT and anti depressants. But be cautious with anti depressants as this is more likely to be hormonal. You are not abnormal! Google John Studd menopuse as his website gives really solid advice especially re depression and menopause. Try not to make any huge relationship decisions when you feel so down.

The recent NICE Guidelines advise GP's not to undertake blood tests to establish if a woman is menopausal. They are advised to be guided by symptoms and if they fit the criteria then HRT should be prescribed. So if your dose isn't helping your symptoms then it should be increased. The NICE Guidelines are quite prescriptive as to what direction the GP should take in the UK however in countries such as the USA I'm sure it is very different.

I think if you are normal menoupase age this is correct but if you are younger a low oestrogen blood at 2 different times in a month is a guide for GPs to feel more secure about prescribing. The problem is if the oestrogen levels come back within normal range you can still be peri menoupausal and feel awkful but if its low it is pretty definitive.

It depends what you call menopausal age. Women as young as 38-40 gpvpcan be menopausal. I don't know whether you are in the UK but all GP's follow the NICE Guidelines now and would treat accordingly.
