Excessive head and face sweating

I am 63 and for the last 22 years have suffered with excessive sweating on my head and face, which seems to be getting worse.  This is uncomfortable and embarrassing.  If I do anything even slightly energetic (hoovering, ironing etc.) it is worse, and it takes a long time for me to cool down.  I was referred to a dermatologist who prescribed pills, which just dried up my eyes (red, sore and bloodshot within 30 mins) and mouth (making it impossible to eat or even speak).  She point blank refused to consider any other treatment, even telling me botox does not work for the face, which i know is untrue.  This condition, to other people, seems trivial but it is not.  In the summer I cannot go outside, so I can't even play with my grandchildren.  I certainly couldn't go out shopping or to a social event, the sweat drips off me and my hair is drenched within minutes.  I obviously cannot use make-up, or even have a decent hairstyle, which zaps the confidence.  I do have a thyroid problem but that is well controlled.  I am a little overweight but not much.  I have other non-related medical conditions (arthritis, fibromyalgia).  Has anyone any experience of the new gadget around which includes a mask for the face, plugged into a machine - sorry I can't remember the name of it.  I know they are very expensive but I am desperate.  Any helpful tips would be great.  Thank you.

Was reading your post and I am 47 years old and I am having the same exact problems I am overweight but I was 100 pounds heavier and I didn't sweat this bad and I had my hormones checked to see if I was in menopause yet and that came back negative but it doesn't matter what I do and AC or by just getting out of the shower if I do anything to strenuous I start sweating in my hair first and then it looks like I haven't even blow dried my hair because it is drenched and I've had my thyroid checked and they told me it wasn't that so I don't know what has gotten me to do this and it started about two years ago and is getting worse and my sister came over one day and I showed her how bad I was sweating and she thought maybe it was my heart so I went to the doctor and the doctor tell me that my heart sounded fine but I do have an appointment with the cardiologist just to check further but it is not God I don't know really what it could be and yes it is very embarrassing I got out of the shower last week to go to a wedding of one of my husbands friends and by time I got dressed and blowdried my hair and could wear make up because I was too wet we got down the road and turned around and we didn't get to go to the wedding. My has been did get upset because he really wanted to go and I just don't think he understands from a woman's point of view that meeting people you don't know and you're doing all this wedding and pouring down your face Kaina makes you feel like a nasty person is there any over-the-counter products or vitamins that can help with this. Now that summer is here it is even worse I had to get a window unit put in my kitchen because when I cook I get so hot and start dripping wet again just to say cool but I don't sweat really bad like around my belly or anything it's mostly around my head face and neck. I'm glad to see that I am not the only one going through this I just don't know how or what to do about it or is there something that I could tell my doctor to check for to see why I am sweating like this thanks Lisa

Hi Lisa! I am 48 and have had this problem for many years. It is worse now, more than ever! I can tell you that I've had every test in the book and no one knows where this is coming from. It isn't hormones, a vitamin deficiency, a cardiac issue, or related to low blood sugar. I have a chronic pain syndrome for which I am supposed to take pain meds- they make the sweating worse! I am never stressed or excited when the sweats come on, and the only thing that helps is to crank up the AC.... I can't wear eye makeup at all- I sweat it right off! The sweat drips into my eyes and my hair looks like I just showered! It was slightly less frequent when I worked out, but the heat is absolutely unbearable. I had a cocktail the other night and a sweat immediately ensued. Keep reading the threads! I have already learned about 2 possible meds and an electromagnetic wave treatment. I will try anything... I am desperate!

Good luck to you and let me know how things are going!

I thought I was the only one in Ireland who dealt with this!! I excessively sweat from neck head and face not all the time but it just comes on all of a sudden especially when it's humid. I'm glad I found this thread I really need to get this under control as it's stopping me living my life! could the person who talked about the make up please Pm me the name as I'd be really interested. I am so fed up of it at this stage and anytime I've mentioned it to the docs they just make out like I'm making a big deal but I'd they saw me in the middle of a pub or shopping centre looking like I just showered in my clothes they might understand a bit better!!

Have they diagnosed you on what could be the cause of it. I just started the bad bad sweats about a month ago. I do have an appointment to see a cardiologist to make sure that it's not my heart other than that I don't know what to do about it. It is so embarrassing and now that summer is here it worse.

I have same problem. Might have hormone levels checked. I'm over menopose at 74 but still sweat in the head face neck. Some nights my sheets and pillow are soaked. Try fish oil supplements. Some doctors do bio identical hormone treatments. Expensive! Diet it a part and alcohol too makes it worse. Try to relax and meditating. Deep slow breathing when you seek stressed. I'm still looking for answers. Medical profession seems stumped.

Good day to you. I'm part Irish (grandmother Malone). Maybe it's in the blood. Smiles.

I have the same problem but not that excessive. I just had Boxtox on the forehead but no help. It's more a hormone embalance so if you can find a Doctor that does hormone natural replacement check on it. Meantime when you feel the sweat try relax technique and deep breathing through the nose. Take fish oils and magnesium. There is a solution. Research on line if you can.

Hi I know this is late but just saw your post.  Two things I know for sure that can cause this is anti-depressants and low vitamin D. I would suggest having your vitamin D checked. Sweating especially face and head is a side effect from most anti-depressants.

Thanks. I take D3 everyday. I'm do not take anti depressants. I don't take any prescription medications. The Dr said my calcium levels are too high.

I take 50,000 units a week. I'm starting to wondering if it isn't bc of Vitamn def bc I just started having a problem with my Vitamn levels being low about 6 months ago and this sweating ordeal started about 2 to 3 months ago ?? I had gastric bypass in 2012 but just started having issues with the vitamins and that's one of the problems having it that you have to take supplements for the rest of my life and now there off balance so I'm wondering. I'm gonna look further into this will keep y'all posted. Thanks and have a bless day

I have suffered with this for half of my life at least I am totally affected by this. I get palpitations. I get myself crazy. blood-pressure rises. And there is not one doctor out there that knows what the hell is going on with people like us. By the way The Botox does help some find a good neurologist that will do it and if they bill it correctly insurance will pay for it. I have gone to a hypnotist Accupuncture neurologist endocrinology internal medicine Nobody seems to know anything. I did get that this is the problem that is under the umbrella of dysautonomiaAlso known as an auto immune proplem. INothing works

Hell. I am 73 and this excessive sweating started about 6 mets ago. I am so embarrassed my hair drips it runs down my face my neck is soaked.  Please tell me what I can tell my dr. As he doesn't have a clue what's causing it

I am 74 and have been sweating my my head down to my chest.  I think it's due to hormones and sometimes it comes on if I am anxious.  The Dr. told me the calcium count is high and switched my blood pressure meds.

I really don't take it as I don't have "high" blood pressure.  Perhaps it's food or drinks that create the sweating.  The Doctor said come back in

?three months.  Ask to have your blood workup include hormone level of estrogen/progestron.  Don't know what else I can tell you.

Finally.  The dr sent me for an ultrasound and X-rays. He to,d me Wednesday I have to see a nose ear and throaty specialist as I have noudrols on my throat left side a number, the right side around 3.... He thinks it's definitely thyroid .  Now waiting to get to a specialist.  What really gets me is that I told him over and over again about my excess sweating...first blood test did not show anything....now I could be in big trouble.
