Excessive ingrown hairs around abdomen. Concern? Treatment?

I went to a doctor when I first noticed this and was told that it was ingrown hairs. I did not go through any treatment afterwards and left it as is.

The hairs are pretty deep inside the skin, occasionally one surfaces and I am able to squeeze the hair follicle out by pinching the skin (I'm not sure if that is recommended or not).

I've had this condition for about 5 years now so the rate at which the hairs surface is pretty slow. There are still a handful of hairs that are ingrown.

Lately though, I noticed 3 lumps that were significantly larger than the others (middle of the abdomen), roughly 3-4 cm in diameter.

My questions is, is this something to be concerned about? As well as what are the options for treatment? Are procedures like heat therapy and/or acupuncture an option? Are exfoliation procedure effective with deep ingrown hairs?

Thank you in advance.
