I get itchy after I lie down in bed and it clearly is the nerves in the thigh coming alive again and healing and I just gently massage the itchy area and it seems to sooth it. Most of the issues I have always start after my body weight is off the hip and

I'm in bed so I've resorted to taking two Tylenol an hour before bedtime and it helps. I think all these things should be expected after what the body has been through. Hope this helps.

    Hi Davy,

The itchng is just part of the healing process. My incision was only 3 inches long and they glued it so I didn't have the itching on the site. Surprising, now after three months, I do have some itching from the inside of the hip and still somewhat tender on the hip. If your wound is healed, you can put cocoa butter or vitamin E oil on it. Tylenol is good for pain but it is not an anti-inflammatory. If you have inflammation, you may want to try ibuprophen.

Hang in there. Everyday gets better.

As in the last two replies the itching is part of the healing process I am four months post op now and from the first day home I massaged the wound in bio oil it keeps the skin supple and it has helped with the scar.

If you are taking blood thinners to avoid DVT after your hip surgery you should NOT take aspirin or Ibuprophen!  Anything which thins your bood more should not be taken.  If in doubt you should contact the pharmacist or doctor about drug interactions.

I'm at 12 weeks, after totally successful THR. Couldn't have wished for better, having already 2 failed THRs on other side.

However, in last few weeks my scar, described by all and sundry as 'beautiful', has really become an issue.

It constantly feels as if it's pinching, v tightly; enough to have me cry out at times and I want to writhe at it.

I can only imagine it's a case of the nerves 'waking up'. I constantly massage it with oils and my magic cream, but to little effect.

I've heard that gentle tapping, along the length of it, helps, so am concentrating on this.

Here's hoping. It's driving me demented!

I have had itching with some surgeries right along the incision. Doctor says it just the healing and is to b expected,  but I find if I gently rub some anti itch lotion or lanolin on it the itching is greatly reduced. Also Benydrl is very helpful and can cause some drowsiness. Hope it gets better for you.

Not sure about pain-killers for itching (?)  but my scar itches still sometimes and thats after four months.

I was advised to rub-in baby oil and massge the scar area and it does work. I'm just lazy about this and it does tend to mark the underclothing!!
