Excessive wind following posterior prolapse repair.

Being 10 weeks post posterior repair I seem to be recovering fairly well however a problem that made me go for the op has not been resolved. I suffer from bouts of excessive flatulence which are so bad I am beginning to avoid going out.I read that women pass wind up to 20 times a day when this can happen 20 times in an hour and is uncontrollable. It generally happens shortly after a meal or if I have been sitting down for a few hours. My theory is that the piece of my colon that was bulging into my vagina has now been shifted but is so stretched that it fills with gas. My husband (the only other person I have confided in) tries to make light of the problem but at 59 I don't want to become totally housebound. Not sure whether my GP will take this seriously and have no follow up appointments with the hospital. Anyone else had this experience? Any suggestions for dealing with this. I am already trying to exclude any wind inducing foods an taking care to eat slowly but have not seen any improvement.

Hi Linda sorry to hear your having a bad time, can I suggest a low carb diet this helps alot mainly green veg meat, fish, chicken even a cooked breakfast excluding the bread, toms and beans. I have been on this diet for 6 weeks and I havent had any wind like I use to. Just a suggestion hope you get sorted x

This may also be worth a try although I would not like to risk constipation. Will check out this diet. Thanks for your advice.

Hi Linda have you been tested for food intolerances ie gluten and lactose .

No Sally but this might be worth a try. Have started a food diary to see if there was any connection between my worst bouts and anything in particular but so far haven't found a link. Will follow up your suggestion. Thank you

Hi Linda, I had this problem before and after my PP repair but found certain foods were causing it.  I found I had a lactose intolerance at the same time so cut out all dairy products. I now have very little wind. Even things which contain dairy products like cake and, biscuits were causing the prob.I love figs but the wind they caused was excuciating. Its really a case of excluding foods one at a time until you get to know the ones that cause the prob.

My doc gave me Fybogel to aid with keeping the motion soft after the op and this helped as well.

I think that this problem does increase with age....dont know why, hence all the jokes about 'Granny' farting.......maybe the gut starts to react to different foods as we get older.

Hi Linda, I would try cutting out bread and see if that helps. Also if you are having flatulence a cup or more of camomile tea will help it stop.
